Best Indie Rock Group of the 00s

Looking at the best rock band of the last decade as we near the end is a very difficult task. A lot of it will come down to a matter of personal preferences and musical tastes. After all, we could draw from the pop music charts, or we could go with a band that’s more indie in roots.

Let’s take a look at the contenders for band of the decade, and then I’ll give my personal opinion at the end. Naturally, even the nominees here are all subject to opinion and yours may be different.

The first time I heard the White Stripes, I heard their White Blood Cells album, and I was floored. Their sound was a classic one, but a fresh sounding one at that. This band’s work was full of energy, and Jack and Meg White were great.

The layered sound that two musicians were able to produce is remarkable, and the band’s success spawned off a handful of other bands whose influences were rooted in garage rock. It was great to hear the White Stripes then, and it still is now.

Another obvious contender is Radiohead. While the band became very popular during the previous decade, they became even more well respected during the past ten years.

This band has stopped at nothing to continue pushing the limits in terms of musical boundaries, and they’re still going strong at the end of the decade.

We’ve mentioned a garage rock band and an experimental band, and now it’s time to mention a more traditional rock band. Wilco incorporates elements of a number of different genres, but the purity of the band’s music is strong and lasting.

Wilco is a figurehead in the indie rock movement, as their story couldn’t be more pure. Having dropped their record label after the company thought Wilco’s record was too experimental, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot enjoyed enormous critical success when released, and many call it one of the best albums of the decade.

Because of the above, I believe that Wilco had the strongest presence when you consider its music and overall influence.
