Chicago Bears Beat: Dvoracek Out for Year

According to Vaughn McClure from the Chicago Tribune, Dusty Dvoracek, nose tackle for the Chicago Bears, was injured during training camp and will be having an MRI to look at just how bad the injury is. During the game against the Giants last week, Dvoracek was injured and taken out of the game.

Then, earlier, Brad Briggs from the Sun-Times stated that it looks like Dvoracek may miss the entire 2009 NFL season as a result of his injury from last weekend. It looks like he tore the ACL in his knee, and this would easily sideline him for the entire season.

No fans of the Bears will take this news well. Aside from his valuable role with the team, Dvoracek has had an injury-riddled career and has never once played a full season in Chicago. Dating back to his rookie campaign in 2006, he was injured before the season and missed the entire year.

In 2007, he played just one game before being sidelined for the entire season due to a torn ACL in the same knee. Then in 2008, he played three quarters of the season and was a valuable contributor to the team, but missed the rest of the year after tearing his bicep.

I have to wonder if this spells out the end for Dvoracek. There’s only so much the Bears can take, and having injured the same knee twice now makes him a very risky proposition.

Dusty’s contract ends after the season. It doesn’t seem like there’s much reason for the Bears to sign him onto another contract and I’m not sure another team will want to take a chance on him.

This could turn into another Mike Brown situation. It’s a shame this happens to such a good player, who always gives a 100% effort.

The Bears will do their best to fill the void left by Dvoracek. Marcus Harrison and Anthony Adams will do their best in a time share, and Matt Toeanina will step into a starting role as well.
