Choosing Radiant Heating that Works with Your House
Underfloor heating is a method of heating an area through passive heat radiation. Heat naturally moves from warmer to cooler places, which allows radiant heating possible. It is far more efficient than forced hot air heating, as there is much less heat loss. The area heated also tends to be more comfortable, with less problems of dry air. There are 2 main varieties of underfloor radiant heating.
Water based underfloor heating is Variety 1.
The second variety of underfloor heating is electricity based.
The first variety of underfloor heating is water based. Hoses that hold water are laid under the floor, and are connected to a hot water tank and water pump. When heat is wanted, hot water is forced through the hoses. The water is continually pumped to keep the floors warm.
Variety 2 is electricity based underfloor radiant heating. Electric underfloor heating consists of a metal coils connected to a mat which is laid underneath the floor. Specific amounts of electricity are run through the coils to produce heat. These are considerably simpler than the water version, and can be far cheaper.
There are benefits to both of the varieties of radiant heating. Electrical based heating elements have been shown to cause interference with some electrical items. Newer technologies have proven effective at preventing this, but can be a little pricier. Water based heating does not have the electrical interference to worry about, and can be connected to a solar hot water tank. Both items can be situated to work with solar electric panels to reduce electric needs.
If you want the best way to heat your house in both an efficient and effective manner, then go with underfloor radiant heating. Not only will you have a much nicer atmosphere, you will also have reduced heating bills. Research both technologies before to allow you to choose the best one for your house.
