Don’t Lose Sleep Trying to Find Hotel Bedding

Don’t lose sleep over switching your bedding to a hotel collection. There are more than a few bedding suppliers claiming to have “hotel quality bedding,” which is really just marketing buzz.

When you’re looking for new bedding, here’s what make genuine hotel bedding different from the rest:

They’re actually in hotels – make sure the bedding manufacturer can back up the claim of having their bedding in 4 and 5 star places. Hotel bedding has to have reliable stitching and a resilient fabric to survive the wear and tear of constant washings.

They’re thicker – with over 550 fill power of goose down feathers, a hotel collection down comforter has quality insulation all year round. Look for barrier weave technology that keeps the down from leaking over time. A good fabric will have a tight and durable weave.

They’re softer – unlike standard pillows, many of the hotel collection pillows feature an inner pillow of small feathers supported by an outer layer of down feathers. This construction maintains the pillow’s strength and integrity without compromising the overall comfort.

Also, many bedding manufacturers like to inflate the thread count in their sheets using a high pick and high ply construction. Sheets with multiple picks are noticeably bumpy and can have a more rough texture.

You’ll find that hotel standard bed sheets are normally made with a single pick/ply method that allows for a light and soft product. While a single pick/ply bed sheet can have a maximum thread count of 400 threads per square inch, the overall product can be much softer and stronger than a sheet with 1000-thread count.

Beware of imitators. Hotel bedding is a mighty big claim, but if they have great products your bedroom set will make you feel like you’re going on vacation every single night.
