Don’t Shoot Your Eye Out – Airsoft Guns And Safety Rules
Are you a child and you have found that you would like to have one of those ever so popular airsoft guns? Many teenagers have a problem with their parents and these guns. Parents look at them as if they are really a weapon. Honestly, we do not exactly blame them, but there are teenagers out there that are mature enough to have one. What you need to do is prove to them that you are responsible and know the safety rules behind these guns. Let us help you out by giving you some advice on how to convince your parents you are mature enough to handle one of these…
If you have a pre-teen or teenage boy, chances are that he’s already asked you for an airsoft gun for Christmas or his birthday. These guns are perfectly safe, but it’s important to you know and enforce some basic safety rules.
The best thing you can do is read up on safety rules and talk to your parents about them. They probably think you won’t use the gun safely or don’t even know how safe it is. If you can show them you take gun safety seriously, they might change their minds.
Proper use entails using them only in designated areas, never pointing them at human targets except under specified conditions, and carrying them in a gun case. Your child should NEVER bring one of these guns to school; many schools consider them weapons and may suspend or expel a child who carries one. Carrying them openly in public is also very dangerous, as police officers have been known to mistake these guns for other types of weapons.
Show your parents all the protective gear you’d be willing to wear if you had an air gun. In addition to goggles, you should wear a bulletproof vest, guards over your shins, forearms, and hips, knee protectors, steel toe combat boots, and leather gloves. All this equipment is a hassle to put on, but it keeps you safe if other people are being stupid with their guns.
Finally, your child needs to pay attention while on the range. When shooting, he should first check to make sure there are no other people within range of the target. It is a good idea in general to be aware of one’s surroundings when shooting in order to minimize accidents.
In addition to wearing protective gear, you should always pay close attention to what’s behind, beyond, and on each side of your target. Don’t shoot if there are obstacles or people too close to the target.
Your parents probably have heard horror stories about air guns and don’t know anything about them. Showing that you understand how important safety is will go a long way towards getting them to buy you an air gun.
