Dustin Nippert Looks Good for Rangers
Dustin Nippert claimed his basis for keeping the No. five place in the Rangers’ starting rotation in the franchise’s 5.0-two win on top of Toronto in the 1st portion of Tuesday’s double header. Next to pitch, Brandon McCarthy, coming back for his 1st since departing the rotation in early June for the inactive list.
Nippert displayed much better finesse than in his latest outing last week at Yankee Stadium. In the Bronx, he let up 11 base runners (four hits, seven walks) and got eleven outs. On Tuesday afternoon, he got out of trouble to obtain his fifth win of the season and 3rd as a starter. Nippert was responsible for five hits, and walked just one. He lowered his ERA as a starting pitcher to 4.43 and overall to 3.91. It was Nippert’s third successful start in his last 5 games.
Nippert claimed there really wasn’t a lot discrepancy concerning how he pitched last week and on Tuesday: “Just able to pitch good pitches. In the Bronx, I believe I pitched one curve in the strike zone. The larger predicament I dug myself in, I tried harder to get beyond it. I was clearly going the wrong way. I kept walking guys, trying to pitch that just right pitch.
“Yesterday, I was able to pitch it in front in the count, late in the count. Keep the hitters off my fastball.”
Claimed boss Ron Washington: “I do not think he was overthrowing. He was equalizing with his change-up and his moving stuff. Increased the speed of his fastball.”
Washington and Nippert mutually indicated Nippert wasn’t playing to guard his place in the rotation. Furthermore Nippert claimed he’ll gladly start or come in from the bullpen. Because the Rangers are in post-season contention, each player’s function augments in importance.
“I simply would like to help out this franchise,” he said. “It’s good for us that we maintain further arms currently. Whoever’s pitching well you can go with.
