Golf Hook Cure: Use These Tips To Cure Your Hook For Good

This week’s lesson is entitled, “How to Cure a Golf Hook”, and if you’ve been battling a hook for a while you understand how frustrating they can be. Everyone else is, more than likely, slicing the ball, and you are playing from the opposite side of the fairway.

However,… the golf hook is usually really easy to fix. Use these simple golf tips, and more than likely that nasty golf hook will be corrected in no time. Your focus when correcting a golf hook is to learn how to swing from the outside to inside.

1. Loosen Your Grip – Playing with a grip that is too strong is common among people who hook the ball. If you simply rotate your hands around the grip towards the target, it will make it much more difficult for the face of the club to be “closed” at impact. Now don’t take this tip too far, you need to test each grip to see which works best for you. If you are certain that you are playing with a weak grip then move on to the next tip.

2. Position the ball forward within your stance – Golfers who have a slice usually play the ball forward in their stance. Copy what they do. Since you have a hook, the result should be a much straighter ball. (Remember: It doesn’t matter whether you hook or slice the golf ball, your first goal is to learn how to do the opposite.) If you position the ball forward in your stance you will be well on your way to curing that golf hook.

3. Aim to the left (to the right if left handed) of the target – Start out with an open stance to the target. This will put that clockwise rotation on the ball that you are looking for. Just open your stance a little bit, and swing along the line of your shoulders.

4. Finish With Your Weight On Your Front Foot – More than likely, this is the tip that will have the best chance of curing that golf hook for good. Many hooks are caused by golfers who finish their swing with some of their weight on their back foot. Doing this will force you to come around the ball with a closed clubface. So practice finishing with all of your weight forward to get rid of that nasty golf hook.
