How To Design Your New Set Of Custom Poker Chips
Plain plastic poker chips should just be an introduction into the world of poker chips. They are not unique and are just very plain. So, now is the time to upgrade and get a set of custom poker chips. However, you are not exactly sure what you want your new chips to look like.
Don’t worry, this is very common. While it is a known fact that custom poker chips make a game much better and secure, the actual design can often be an afterthought. If you just take a little time and break down the situation into a couple questions it will be much easier.
The first question to think about is what type of custom poker chip do you want? There are basically three types of custom poker chips. Clay poker chips are the standard and are used in many casinos. The only problem is that real custom clay poker chips are hard to find and when you find them they are very expensive, often costing $1.25/chip or more when considering the fees involved. Ceramic poker chips another casino-quality version. Unlike clay poker chips these have become readily available to home poker game players. Not only that, but custom ceramic poker chips are much lower in cost and they are FULLY customizable. The third option is to customize different variation of plastic poker chips with stickers, labels, stamps, or something similar. These are low cost but also often low quality when compared to clay or ceramic poker chips.
Now you know what type of custom poker chip you want. The next thing to consider is what type of games the chips will be used in. Many people will host cash games of different stakes and also host tournaments. For people like this it is best to get chips with no denominations on them. While useful, chips with no denominations will cause some slight issues with some players that can’t remember the values.
Next, brainstorm and think about what your interests are. Often, a personalized poker chip set can revolve around what you are most interested in. This will help define your chips. Your theme could be anything – dogs, skiing, ancient Roman architecture, anything!
After you have an idea of the theme for your custom poker chips, take some time to look at other poker chips. Do some searching online and review the design of casino poker chips and of custom chips that others have had made in the past. While you don’t want to copy some other poker chip design this will be helpful to give you ideas regarding design elements that you may want to use.
Finally, it is highly suggested that you seek out help when it comes down to the actual designing of the artwork. Unless you have experience with graphic design, you will spend countless frustrating hours trying to design what is in your head. Instead, find a graphic designer that has worked on custom poker chips in the past. Provide them with your ideas as well as examples of chips that you like. This will cost a little bit but it will be well worth it.
