Is a LCD TV Stand Better Than Wall Mounting?

You shopped around and found the perfect, new LCD TV. The picture is great and now you’re wondering where to put it. You have several options. You could put it into an entertainment center, you could use a TV stand, you could wall mount the TV or you could even ceiling mount it.

Entertainment Centers

With an entertainment center, you may find that your old one just doesn’t fit the TV right. It may be too deep or may have been made for TVs with a smaller or different shaped screen (the old 4:3 aspect ratio versus the new 16:9 aspect ratio). Entertainment centers are great for storing other components like a cable / satellite box, your DVR, DVD player, home theater stereo and video game console. They’re also great for reducing clutter because they can also store your favorite movies, CDs and video games.

There are new kinds of entertainment centers out now that better fit the new LCD, flat screen, plasma and LED TVs. The space where the screen is, fits the shape of the screen better and they often are less deep than older entertainment centers, giving you more floor space. Nice! Your room just got bigger!

TV Stands for LCD TVs

A TV stand is a nice solution for many people. They don’t take up as much wall space as an entertainment center might and they still offer plenty of room for your components and for storage. The TV sits on top of the stand, which sometimes resembles a dresser or armoire. This gives your space a nice, warm kind of feeling. The TV uses the stand that it came with and sits nicely in place. You wouldn’t want to use a TV stand in a high traffic area since a TV stand offers little protection for the LCD TV.

There are many kinds of stands available. Many are made of wood so that they can handle the weight of the TV. Some look like really nice pieces of furniture, which could also be repurposed later in other areas of the house as your interior decorating and home entertainment needs change.

TV Wall Mounts and Ceiling Mounts

Wall mounting and ceiling mounting your TV gives you some nice benefits. For one, you gain valuable floor space as the TV is lifted and mounted to the wall. You also get the TV out of reach of children and pets, thus protecting your valuable investment. And you also get the TV higher up and placed at just the right viewing angle so that everyone can see the screen and picture in the best way possible.

These benefits are great but wall or ceiling mounting your TV can, and is, more work. You’ll need the correct mount, find the wall studs to mount it to along with doing some minor electrical work (or use a conduit along the wall). A project like this could take a whole day or so or you could call a professional to do it for you, in less time.

Summary

Whichever one you choose, be it an entertainment center, TV stand or wall/ceiling mount, you’ll enjoy watching your shows, movies and sports on a nice screen with great picture!
