Putting Up Steel Buildings In High Seismic Areas
In the engineering department of these Steel Building companies, is where they design the structures to withstand extreme weather and seismic activity. Everyone should be well aware of the seismic activity in California.
But a lot of people are not aware of the small pocket earth quake areas throughout the entire United States, such as Tennessee. Not even a week ago there was an earthquake that was right on the border of Colorado and New Mexico, with a magnitude of 3.0 or less. So what does this have to do with Prefabricated Steel Buildings?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, an earthquake is the sudden shift of the earths crust due to the release of stress accumulated along geological faults or by volcanic activity.
A seismic wave in the ground beneath the structure will send a shock of kinetic energy into it. It is critical that the design of the buildings is there for absorbing and controlling these kinetic energies as it dissipates. For years now the steel building designers have known how to combat these types of interferences.
There are several rules to be followed when designing residential and commercial steel buildings that will be erected in the high seismic areas across the country with respect to the kinds of bracing that can be used for the prefab metal building.
For instance there are two types of wall braces that may be incorporated in designing a steel barn. Remember that it is not necessary to brace every single wall in the steel barn to withstand the lateral forces of an earthquake. And in a smaller steel garage of sorts it is necessary to brace one wall. In any steel building containing five or more bays there should be two bays at each wall need to be braced. The first of which is something called a Diaphragm Bracing or Panel Shear. This type of brace is the least expensive and is only to be used in areas which the wind speeds and seismic activity is minimal. A Diaphragm brace is something that is attached to the wall sheeting of the metal barn that is designed to absorb the lateral wund and seismic forces.
Say you are in need of a bit more protection for these threats, you will probably have to use something called x-bracing. This type of bracing has to do with strong steel cabling that is ran diagonally from each strut and column.
So if you are a resident of California or one of the more remote earth quake areas and you are ready to purchase your discounted steel building from Price A Building, you can definitely be assured that it will be designed to withstand anything issues that you may have.
