Sporting Life – How Do I Throw A Ball Better
A professional baseball player and a high school baseball player will rarely have the same skill, or strength, yet they will always be playing in the same baseball field dimensions. They will be running the ninety feet from base to base, and throwing the ball from sixty feet at the pitcher’s mound.
The demands of the sports are great, but more so for those who have not yet reached their body’s full potential. That does not mean however that young people should give up on the sport or that they have no chance of performing well. All it takes is patience, perseverance and practice.
The Throw
Anyone who can pick up a ball, swing their arm and let the ball go can throw a pitch, but being able to control the direction of the ball, and giving it the extra speed it needs is an acquired skill. As the arm muscles and the bones of the body develop, practicing during this period of growth will strengthen and condition the right sets of muscles for a good throw. No one can be expected to throw accurately a hundred percent of the time, but for at least six to nine months in a year, the accuracy should at least be reliable and stable.
For students under the high school age, it is necessary to practice within 6 to 9 months. As high school age approaches, the training can be as rigid as some couple of days in a week. But still, having a rest in between training is recommended.
Three Rules in Fast and Accurate Throwing
The first kind of throw is called direction. This one is performed with a complete turn of the body which will later result for the shoulder to be pointing to the target direction. Even more, the feet should be positioned parallel to each other. If this position is not followed, the throw can be a failure.
The second kind is called direction 2. With this, the thrower should position directly to the target. If not, the hips of the thrower might not be able to do the perfect turn which can later result to inappropriate throw. Lastly, follow through is another throwing technique that one needs to practice. With this, some of the stress in throwing is transferred to the shoulder for a better aim.
Though the three mentioned throws seem to be easy to perform, there are still some instances that it cannot be done right. One of the reasons for that is inappropriate training and practice. One should always remember that to be the best in baseball, constant training is necessary to achieve whatever it is that you aim for.
Putting it down in words makes it seem easy but having academic knowledge and putting it to use are two very different things. It’s like reading a manual on how to build a bike on your own, and actually getting down to building it. At a certain point, it will be time to put the book down and begin working because some of the terms that are used will not make sense until you do.
