Submitting Articles to Article Directories

A great way to promote your website is to give something back.

Write up some good information about your industry. Make it something people will be interested in and beyond just basic information. Go deeper. At the end of that article, you get what’s sometimes called a “Resource Box” which is just a short paragraph (2-3 sentences) explaining who you are along with an invite for people to visit your website. Here, you can link keywords to your website and in exchange for writing a good article, you get this link back to your website. This helps your website rank better and if people like what you’ve written, they will go to your website to get more good information. It’s a win-win for everyone.

There are many (MANY) article directories out there – and probably more being started every day. Below is a list of a number of them:

Most of these sites let you submit an article for free but you will need to register as a user for all of them most likely. This is good because as you submit more articles, the sites keep track of all the articles you’ve submitted and you can grow a nice, long list of your good articles.

The material you submit needs to be original and unique content. Your piece should be at least 400 words and you should name it properly. Give it a compelling title that’s not too long. Long titles that look like they’re packed with keywords or are just about your business will often get rejected and you’ve just wasted your time writing that up.

Good articles to write are “how to” articles. People go on the Web and are often searching about how to do something. You’ll get plenty of hits to your articles if you write them like this.

It’s also good to use bulleted or numbered lists when you can. People want to be able to scan articles to find the information they’re looking for and lists help. What also can help is paragraph headers, which briefly explain what the next few paragraphs are about.

Some more tips:

  • Don’t go too crazy on bolded text or your article might get rejected.
  • Make sure your spelling and grammar are correct. Some article directories get a lot of articles submitted to them and will simply reject articles that don’t meet these standards.
  • Just put your links in the resource box of your article and not within the main text of the article.
  • If you are allowed to use tags, use meaningful tags that relate to the content in your article.
  • Publish your article in the correct category.

It’ll take some time for you to start getting some traffic and seeing your website rank higher, but put in the work and you’ll see results. Be Patient and have fun.
