In the world of bass fishing, the amateur and competitive nature of this sport has attracted a rather large following that has only continued to gain popularity over the years. In order to become a success, using fishing lures and bait is a must. Depending on the time of day or night, location, type of water, and depth – different bass fishing lures will produce better results than other selections. To become familiar with the most common and effective choices, consider the following suggestions:

Jigs

Many will say that jigs – heavy, lead-headed baits with a single hook are the most useful of baits to consider – especially when fishing in waters that are somewhat murky or clear. Jigs are good for attracting inactive fish and getting the attention of those who are buried deep. When using this type of lure, keep in mind that jigs are meant to create presentation, where success comes in making them appear noticeably alive. The ideal water temperature for this bass fishing lure is below 60 degrees. They are also perfect for night-fishing.

Rubber Worms

The hassle of dealing with real worms is eliminated when using rubber selections that work just as well. An added weight in the structure of the lure allows a slow descent to the bottom of your fishing location. When lucky, bass strike at the rubber worm. If the lure reaches the bottom without any action, simply reel it back towards the surface and let it drop once again.

Spinner Baits

The unusual shape of spinner baits are constructed with an over-sized metal attachment that spins. This lure doesn’t attract fish by appealing to their hunger, but rather through agitation. Spinner baits are year-round lures that especially work well during the spawning season when bass are less desperate to feed.

Crank Baits

Through the imitation of a weak or injured fish, crank lures are used as top water and sinking lures. The added cranking noise attracts bass with its sound. A slow approach is necessary in order to successfully imitate an injured fish.

Poppers

While poppers are similar to crank baits, they are set aside solely as a top water lure. As they travel across the water, a “popping” sound is emitted. The best time of year to use this lure is during the summertime, where slow reel action is required.

Grubs

The smallmouth bass is especially attracted to the tiny lures known as grubs, which are geared towards larger catches. Grubs are bare jig heads with a soft-plastic body added to a hook. When a highland reservoir lacks ample cover, this lure is rather effective. Clear and deep waters are the greatest locations to use grubs, where white, yellow, salt and pepper, and smoke selections work best.

Tube Baits

When fishing in clear water or surrounded by inactive fish, tube jigs works wonders to specifically target bass. A spinning reel on a 6 to 6 -foot medium-light to medium action rod best accommodates this type of drop bait. Also, seek out water no deeper than 10 feet when using tube baits.

Vibrating Lures

Plastic or metal is used to create the vibrating luares that generate a tremor when retrieved out of the water. With a sound (much like a rattle), the baits sink to the bottom and do not get lost in particularly deep waters. A variety of lures are offered in this category, including tailspinners, which are heavy, compact baits of metal that uses a small spinner to attract the bass. Use vibrating lures when fishing about stumps, close to river currents, on deep channel drop-offs, and over waterlogged grass beds.a

You have watched people take Fishing vacations on the National Geographic and the Discovery Travel and Living. You have even hoped to take one yourself. Think, fishing vacations, Mexico, Canada, Alaska because this is available for the best reward a fisherman can give their self.

If you have been saving up for a memorable trip, going to Canada, Alaska or Mexico for a fishing vacation will surely give you your moneys worth; and even more. Canada is known for its Walleyes and Northern Pikes. Alaska is famous for waters brimming with Salmon, Steelhead, Trout, Cods and Halibuts. Go to Mexico for an abundance of Bass

Popular for its Bass fishing, Mexico produces bass weighing more than 10 pounds. Aside from fishing, the beautiful scenery makes one forget the city life. Moreover, knowing that the guides look over you allows you to enjoy your trip even more. The quiet and comfort offered by its first class inns are complemented by excellent food, drinks and service. A shot or two of Margarita would be a great way to end the day.

Some famous fishing destinations in Mexico are Lake Agua Milpa, Lake Mateos, the Sierra Madre mountains Lake Huites, Lake Guerrero. Lake Baccarac has lodges overlooking the lake. Known for its Trophy bass, El Salto is located a few miles north of Mazaltan. It has several lodges along its shores. It also has several lodges along its shores; with the water brimming with fish.

While Mexico is mostly known for its bass, Alaska has a variety to offer. Their fresh waters have Trout and Salmon; and their saltwater have the Cod and the gigantic Halibut. Aside from the famous Salmon, the Rainbow Trout, Lingcod, the Dolly Varden and Rockfish abound in the Kodiac Island, Yes Bay, the River Kenai, Bristol Bay and the Prince of Wales.

Aside from the different kinds of fish found in the Alaskan waters, wildlife in all its beauty will also astound every vacationer. Bald eagles soar the blue skies. Kodiak bears will be the envy of every captivated wildlife as they are seen roaming the island with freedom. You can also experience fly fishing Cutthroats; and spin casting Chum salmon and Coho too. Equally amazing in beauty are the Canadian lakes and forests. To name a few are Lake Hatchet, Silsby Lake, Kasba Lake and Wollaston Lake.

Here you can catch the huge Lake Trout, the gigantic Northern Pike, fish the Walleye and the Arctic Grayling. There are other experiences in store for you with fly-outs on light planes and houseboats to live on water. These places are utterly uncorrupted by human invasion; wild and beautiful and as though nature defies being tamed by anything.

The Wildlife still roams freely and the eagles survey their domain silently high in the sky. The sky is a clear blue and the sunsets and sunrises defy description in words. It is so far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities that our lives seem far away; and all the life’s struggles worthless. Keep in mind all theses descriptions and think; fishing vacations, Mexico, Canada, Alaska the next chance you get to reward yourself.

In order to get the most out of your you are going to definitely want to stop by Your Fishing Escape for vacation, trip, charter, and guide information!

There are many things in the market to help you, things like Fishing Videos, Books, Apparel(Shirts, Hat, Watches), to put you on the right path. Being an angler is probably the most rewarding sport one can do. It is not only relaxing, but gives one a sense of achievement when you get it right. Of course, there are hundreds of ways to fish. Your goal would be to find your own style and adapt here and there.

It’s really not wise just to buy a rod and some bait and storm to the nearest river or beach and try your luck. You will waste time and after while you will loose interest because you are not successful in catching fish.

Fishing Videos are a great way to start:.

Here you need to ask yourself if it’s just entertainment you are looking for. If that’s the case then I’m afraid you are not going to learn anything. It is good instructional videos that you must find. These videos will give you step by step instructions on how to do almost anything when it comes to fishing. They love their sport and will gladly part with their knowledge. If you have someone who is already a good angler, then let them watch it with you. This way you get good feed back.

Be informed by reading:

Its useful to source the most popular books available. If you go for an obscure author, you might get the wrong instructions. Remember you want as much detail as possible. Look at the book; is it just a pictorial, in which case you wouldn’t benefit at all. Does it have illustrations as well as good content? It’s also useful to find books that will give you all the fishing terms you need. You don’t want to get caught stammering along not knowing what type of bait you put on a hook or what to say when you are about to cast your fly in the water.

Clothes maketh man:

Yes, there is fashion for anglers. You needn’t look unprofessional when fishing. You will find an array of fashion to suit all your fishing needs. From hats, to jackets, to shirts, to watches. It is there to make your fishing experience memorable.

Any angler will tell you that to be comfortable in your clothes while you fish is one of the most important aspects of fishing. You do not want to catch fish in a business suit and a bowler hat. There are plenty of stores around that supply the best and the most modern outfits in the market. It is important that you feel comfortable and have maneuverability in our clothes. Speak to the experts who will give you guidance on this.

Apart from just going out there and catching that elusive fish, the fishing industry has really made it easy for us to learn by obtaining Fishing Videos, Books, Apparel, for example (Shirts, Hats, Watches). Go get them!

Specialist Fishing has the best Braided Fishing Line Information that you can find anywhere on the internet.

by Chris Douglas

From the time Man was able to figure out that there were creatures living in the waters around him, and that they could be eaten and not kill him, and they tasted pretty good in the process; bass fish have become a staple in the sports fishing world. Bass species are found all over the world in one form or another, and are pursued not only for the wonderful sport fish that they are, but for the good eating they can afford as well.

The bass fish as a whole are divided into two main groups based on their affinity for the type of water they are found in; we have the marine varieties, and the fresh water varieties. The scientific name for the order they belong to is Perciformes which literally means “perch-like” fishes. That moniker was derived from the Middle English word “bars” which way back in English history meant “perch”. It has come down through the ages and been modified to today’s spoken word of “bass”. When you see a large group of bass swimming together, it is called a shoal.

There are two main types of bass fish found in the scientifically named family of Moronidae, and these are the temperate basses and the black basses. Upon further breakdown, the group of black bass contains the largemouth, small mouth, Guadalupe, and spotted bass; and then the temperate group of bass would be the striped bass and the white bass. The included varieties can be found in numerous sites containing water such as small streams, ponds, lakes, and upwards of the ocean as well.

When people speak of bass fish, they are not just talking about the fish that fall under the main bass groups; they are also including a lot of kinds of fish that are similar to the bass, but are not technically part of the scientific group. Those kinds referred to by anglers as bass include black sea bass, giant sea bass and the Australian bass.

Bass fishing is the most popular game fishing sport without a doubt, and there are legions of anglers who would attest to that. A whole industry has built up around the bass fish, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of online websites where you can go to get any bit of information you want about the world of bass fishing or join a forum to talk with other bass fishermen; as well as specialty sports stores that specialize in the sport. There are all kinds of boats designed just for bass fishing, lures, equipment, recreational lodges built near bodies of water that support bass—the list is endless.

Your bass fishing experience is not complete without having a boat designed especially for the sport and using it to go after the prized bass fish. There are all kinds of styles, sizes, makes of bass fishing boats and the price ranges reflect the differences from flat boats, jon boats, electric boats—-all kinds of boats just for fishing for bass. The average bass boat ranges in size from 16 to 26 feet and is usually made of aluminum or fiberglass and will have an electric trolling motor installed on the bow of the boat which is required by law.

Bass fishing claims more people that follow and participate in the sport than any other form of sport fishing, and it is no wonder when you think of the variety of experiences that you can have just by getting yourself outfitted and literally head for the hills with gear in hand and boat at the ready. The fun ranges from just lazing away the hours on your boat in a secluded waterway somewhere to actively fighting with a bass fish that takes your hook and provides a little excitement jumping in and out of the water.

Our series of articles on Freshwater Fishing Gear continues as we attempt to remove the fear of buying fishing tackle from the novice angler.

by Bill Keller

Our series of articles on Freshwater Fishing Gear continues as we attempt to remove the fear of buying fishing tackle from the novice angler.

Don’t make the same mistake I made, I purchased gear that seemed great but was totally improper for the business at hand. With the horde of reels and rods that are available, not to mention the millions of baits, fishing knives, fishing nets, line thickness and other fishing tackle; how could a first timer not make a few incorrect and pricey purchases?

We began our series on freshwater fishing gear with the reel; including the spincast and spinning reels. Now we will address the Cadillac of the fishing world the Baitcast Reel; also referred to as baitcaster, baitcasting, casting reel, and a conventional reel.

Baitcast reels can handle thicker lines and allows for longer casts than spinning reels in the identical size range. Fishermen frequently use line in the 14- to 17-pound-test range.

The setup of the baitcaster permits for accurate casting to get the lure just where you need it. They use very tough drag systems to slow heavier, stronger fish and are intended to be used with heavier lures.

The baitcast reel is the favorite reel of anglers out to catch Bass, Channel Catfish, Steelhead and any large fish. Because of its casting accuracy it is tremendous for fishing in water where line can tangle easily or for casting into tight places such as decks and trees in the water.

Baitcast reel has a revolving spool with the line going in the same direction as the line as it works down the fishing rod. They have a center pin and the disks are attached by a series of outer pins that displays the line. Some are built partly from composites, but most are still stainless steel, often with brass components in certain sections.

The baitcaster attaches above the rod, making it more difficult to handle and has a much higher learning curve than either the spincast or spinning reels. For this reason it is not a good entry level reel for children or the starting fisherman.

Because of its steeper price range it can be very costly for the casual weekend fisherman who will only fish from time to time. Since its main strength is as a casting reel it may be overkill for the weekend angler who just wants to put a line in the water and sit back and relax.

An affordable example of the baitcast reel is the Abu Garcia Black Max Series Baitcast Reels, priced at under $50 it is the perfect choice for beginning or casual bass angler. Designed with four ball bearings plus one instant anti-reverse roller bearing, MagTrax brake system, Duragear brass gears, cam lock, and an anti-distortion waffle spool.

Look for our review of the Fly Fishing Reel in the next article in the continuing series Freshwater Fishing Tackle Buyers Guide.
