Bed bugs are tiny nocturnal creatures that act basically like fleas. Bed bug treatment can be time consuming. They eat human blood and for the most part live in bedding, hence the name bed bug. There are many different types of bed bug but the only one that we have to be worried about is the kind that feed off of us.

Ticks, fleas and bed bugs all have the same way of feeding and can live quite a while without feeding. Bed bugs only have to feed about four times a month. They also only come out for about five minutes. We would not even notice them if it were not for the fact that they irritate skin when they bite.

Most of the time you get bed bugs from somewhere else. People can get them by buying used furniture and mattresses, visiting a house that has them, or from other animals. Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do to prevent them from gaining a foothold in your home.

How you know that you are infested is the appearance of rashes, itching, black or brown spots on your mattress or linens, and possibly in the crevices of your furniture. They are hard to see and many people think they have fleas. Bed bugs are smaller than fleas.

One of the few things that you can do about bed bugs is to get a mattress case or cover. These do not just slip over the bed but all the way around the bed and usually zip up. These keep the bed bugs in and starve them to death. This process lasts anywhere from six to eighteen months.

Some insecticides are specifically designed for bed bug treatment. When using an insecticide you will need to make sure that it is the type that you either leave on the mattress. You will need to dispose of the other type properly before sleeping on the mattress.

There are also sprays and bed bug kits that contain covers, dusts, and sprays. In order to treat the infestation treating your bed just is not enough. You will need to treat the baseboards, mattress, sheets, linens, pillows, and surrounding furniture.

Using a combination of different products or a kit is the best way to treat bed bugs. Try covering your mattress, treating floors and baseboards, and then dusting any carpet with the powder. Bed bugs are very annoying and very hard to get rid of. It takes several treatments and at least six to eighteen months to get rid of them completely.

Getting bed bugs is fairly easy. They come from several different sources and are extremely difficult to remove. You have to make sure that you treat every surface and piece of furniture that they might be on. You can always use any of the treatments in different combinations.

Make sure you do not spray liquid under one of the mattress covers. Liquid will mold in the closed environment, make sure that it is thoroughly dry. Bed bug treatments are easy to do but are time consuming. If you have any questions consult a pest control professional.

Discover the different bed bug treatment options you have. One is bed bug spray, but you need to use the right one. Head online and find out more today.

Bedbugs were initially brought to the United States by early colonists from Europe. Fifty years ago, bedbugs were eradicated because of the potent insecticide DDT. With the banning of DDT and increasing travel rates, incidences of bedbug infestations also started rising.

International travel is the main reason why bedbugs got into the United States and in other places in the world. For instance, in 2003, there was an incident about bedbugs. A young boy developed red lesions in his lower legs. The lesions were itchy. His parents suspected insects and they started checking the boy’s room. They were able to find bedbugs in the mattress. At first, they were confused as to how the bedbugs got into the house because it was always clean. The parents remembered that a month before this happened, some of their friends from Nepal lived with them for a few days. They believed that their friends were most likely the carriers of bedbugs.

Bedbug infestations have been found in places with high occupancy rates like motels, hotels, and others. If you happened to stay in a bedbug-infested area and you didn’t know it, you can definitely bring these insects with you anywhere you go.

Bedbugs can easily get into your luggage and travel with you. Therefore, it is always good for to be mindful of signs of bedbug infestations.

Cracks and crevices in the walls and floors are possible habitats of bedbugs. If you see any inform the hotel manager and try transferring to another place at once.

Hotels or motels usually provide a luggage stand. If there is one in your room, use it. The luggage stand is very helpful in guarding against bedbugs. Put you luggage on the stand instead of on the floor or furniture.

If you start getting bites that are red, raised, and form a linear pattern, immediately vacuum your luggage and wash these in the hottest water as soon as possible. You can treat the bedbug bites with topical corticosteroids.

Now you know the relationship between bedbugs and travel. When traveling, always be aware of the condition of the room that you are staying in. Look for possible signs of infestations so that you don’t become the host and carrier of these insects.

Once you have a bedbug infestation, you must start fighting these in order to control their spread. Bedbugs can travel from one furniture or room to another. There have also been cases of bedbug infestations in multi-unit apartments, condominiums, or buildings. Bedbugs can be transferred easily: through clothing, furniture, and even pets.

Fighting bedbugs is done is many different ways. Sun exposure is by far the simplest method. You can simply expose the infested materials under the sun for a couple of hours. This is effective in killing bedbugs. Another effective method is steam cleaning. But before you use this, check first if the material of the furniture can withstand steam cleaning. Both methods use extreme heat in killing bedbugs.

Fighting bedbugs can also be done with the use of diatomaceous soil. The jagged edges of this soil kill bedbugs that come into contact with it.

Another method in fighting bedbugs is with the use of insecticides. You will find many varieties of bedbug insecticides. Examples of these are residual insecticides, insecticidal dusts, contact insecticides, and insect growth regulators. Bedbug insecticides can be in sprays, powder, or liquid forms.

You must apply the insecticides in infested areas. Apply it in cracks, holes, and crevices since these are where bedbugs usually hide. Always remember to handle insecticides with care because these are poisonous once ingested.

Some bedbug insecticides were formulated to be less toxic and environment-friendly. Before applying the insecticides, always read the product label and instructions first. You must also check if a certain number of treatments are needed to achieve optimal results.

After treatment, it is important to vacuum the infested area. You must also make sure that whatever live bedbugs or eggs will not be transferred by sealing the vacuum bag in plastic.

Re-infestation can also occur even after you have made treatments. You can guard your furniture, especially your mattress, from any possible re-infestation by putting it in a mattress cover. This mattress cover can be made of vinyl, plastic, of fabric. Sealing the mattress inside the cover will protect it from bedbugs. Also, in any case that a live bedbug or egg was left inside the mattress, this will die of hunger in 6 months or so. Cleanliness and reducing clutter are also important in fighting bedbugs.

Do you have bedbugs at home? If you do, you must first identify the site of infestation. How can you do this?

First, observe the time when you had the bite marks. Where did you lie down that time? Once you already know which room, you now have to look for the insects themselves. Check the mattress and sofa first. These are the usual habitats of bedbugs. Then check any furniture that is near the infested mattress or sofa. Look for cracks or crevices. You may see an adult bedbug or a nymph.

Bedbugs that are around 4-5 mm in length with reddish-brown, flat, oval bodies are the adult forms. The adults are wingless and their bodies look banded.

You will also find nymphs. These are translucent and have lighter colors than the adults. Now that you have seen where the insects live, you can call a professional exterminator to get rid of them or you can buy a bedbug spray.

There are insecticides formulated to kill bedbugs. These come in spray or dust form. Some are even formulated to be less toxic and environment-friendly.

When choosing a bedbug spray you must make sure that it can be used on the materials that are infested. For example some bedbug sprays can only be used for the mattress, while others are for wood. There are some bedbug sprays that you can use in just about anything.

Before spraying, you must scrub and vacuum all the infested furniture. In disposing of the vacuum bag, put this inside a plastic bag to contain the bedbugs there.

Once you have done these, apply the bedbug spray on the infested area. Make sure that you have read and understood the instructions for application and if re-treatment in required. Examples of the most common bedbug sprays are Pyrethrins, Tempo, Allethrin, and Malathion.

How does a bedbug infestation begin? There are several ways by which our houses can become infested with bedbugs. A hotel or motel that we stayed in can have bedbugs. And unknowingly, we may have brought these into our house through our luggage.

Another way of getting bedbugs into your house is by buying used clothing or furniture. Also, if you live in a multi-unit apartment, building, or condominium, bedbugs can get from one place to the other through pets. It only takes getting in contact with these insects. Bedbugs can hitch a ride on your clothes or your shoelaces.

You must be aware whether you have a bedbug infestation or not. Bedbug bites are the first sign of infestation. These bite marks can be raised or flat lesions that are pinkish to red in color. Bedbug bites are easily identified because of their linear pattern.

A burning sensation and itchiness can be caused by the bedbug bites. To treat these, antihistamines or systemic corticosteroids are prescribed. And if you want the bedbug bites to disappear, topical corticosteroids are applied. It is advised not to scratch the lesions as this will cause scarring.

After identifying the bedbug bites, you must inspect your house for the existence of these insects. Start the inspection with your sofa or mattress because these are the usual habitats of bedbugs.

Look for cracks or holes in the mattress or sofa. Also inspect for brown or red spots. The brown spots are the fecal matter of bedbugs. While the red spots are from blood of the crushed insects. If you see these signs, you definitely have a bedbug infestation.

Adult bedbugs are reddish-brown and wingless. They have flattened oval bodies with microscopic hairs which give them a banded appearance. Newly hatched nymphs are translucent and lighter in color.

You definitely have a bedbug infestation if you have the bites and the insects. Getting rid of them must be started as soon as possible. You can seek the help of a professional exterminator.

Have you heard of bedbugs? These insects were eradicated when potent insecticides were still in use. But when these were banned and international travel has increased, so did the incidences of bedbug infestation. What are the evidences of bedbugs?

One sign of bedbug infestations is the bedbug bites. Bedbugs bite humans and other warm-blooded animals for their blood. A bedbug bite can be pinkish to red in color and flat or raised welts. Flea bites have the typical red dot in the middle but bedbug bites are known for their linear pattern. You can see bites forming a row or an arch. It was observed that the linear pattern results from any disruption while the bedbug is feeding. For instance, if the host moves, the bedbug changes position as well.

Bite marks may take days or just a few hours to appear. You need not worry because bedbug bites do not cause any disease.

With the bite marks come itchiness. And the degree of itchiness also changes among people. Some only feel mild discomfort while others lose hours of sleep over it.

Allergic reactions can also result from bedbug bites. But this is a rare occurrence. To address the itchiness, antihistamines or systemic corticosteroids are prescribed by doctors. These medications only treat the itchiness and not the lesions. Topical corticosteroids can be applied to get rid of the itchiness and the lesions.

The bedbug bites may take a few days to a week to disappear. When the bite marks are still there and you feel itchy, stop yourself from doing so. Scratching the bedbug bites will only cause scars.

Seeing bedbugs with your own two eyes will be the best sign of an infestation. To do this, observe the time of day when you get the bite marks. Try to establish a certain furniture that you slept on before the bite marks appeared. If it is the mattress, inspect your mattress for cracks, holes, and brown and red spots. The brown spots are from the feces of bedbugs. And the red spots are from the blood of crushed bedbugs.

Now that you are pretty sure of a bedbug infestation, you must start getting rid of the insects.

Are you itchy these past few days? Do you find red bite marks on your body which cause the itchiness? How do the bite marks look? Are they raised or flat? Is there a pattern in the bites? If all these questions got a yes from you, you could have bedbug bites.

Bedbugs are insects that feed on blood from humans and warm-blooded animals. These insects are not nocturnal but they do eat during the night. The term bedbug came from their habitat ” beds or sofa.

People have different reactions to bedbug bites. For example, in some people the bedbug bites do not appear immediately. While in other people, it usually takes a few days for the bites to be seen. In rare occasions, bedbug bites have caused some allergic reactions like nausea.

Do not worry because it has been proven that bedbugs bites do not carry any form of disease. You may feel discomfort from the itching and burning caused by the bite marks. And you may feel irritable because you tend to lack sleep. Worry not because bedbugs bites can be treated.

You can initially treat them with warm water. The water should be warm enough to make you uncomfortable. If the water is not warm enough; the bite marks will just get worse.

Taking systemic corticosteroids and antihistamines has been effective in treating the itchiness and burning sensation. But these medicines have no effect on making the bite marks disappear.

Topical corticosteroids can treat the itchiness and make the bite marks disappear faster. Just remember that when you get itchy, refrain from scratching the bite marks. This might just leave scars.

Once your bite marks are treated, you can now concentrate on your next mission which is to get rid of bedbugs.
