I absolutely love cooking, so after moving into my brand new house, the first thing I did was make sure I had all the necessary tools to engage in my favorite hobby right from the start. Having state of the art appliances was a must, and I also brought over all my expensive pots, pans, and other assorted cookware. In fact, the only thing I had to purchase after moving in was one of those kitchen knife sets that come with about 10 different knives. I’d always wanted one, but never managed to buy a good set until recently.

You’d think that shopping for kitchen knife sets would be a pretty straightforward process that doesn’t require much thought or consideration. But that wasn’t how it went down for me. First of all, there are just so many different brands to choose from that I felt compelled to read up on the manufacturers at least a little bit before making a decision. After taking the time to learn about brands like Shun, Forschner, Misono, Sugimoto, and more, I felt much more knowledgeable about what to look for in various kitchen knife sets.

Once I familiarized myself with brands, I then started reading about features. Did I want ceramic or stainless steel? Would I prefer a blade that was forged or stamped? How about balance? Did the knives feel good in my hand? Were they easy to control, did they make quick, clean cuts, and did they require a lot of maintenance? Honestly, even with my love of cooking I had never given this much thought to kitchen knife sets before! I had no idea that these instruments could be so different from each other, but the more I learned, the more concerned I became about spending my money on the right products.

After going through brands and features, I could then turn my attention to price. Kitchen knife sets can cost anywhere from $30 for a basic set of five or six knives, to several thousand dollars for something you’d likely find in a gourmet restaurant. I didn’t need anything too fancy, so I crunched some numbers, settled on a figure I could comfortably spend, and proceeded to pick out something I liked.

I ended up placing an order with a website that sells discount kitchen knife sets online. I just happened to see an advertisement for a set I was considering, clicked through to the site, and couldn’t pass up the deal I saw. I saved more than 60 percent off the retail price, which was incredible! And, I’m perfectly happy with the knives I ended up with. I can’t believe I spend so many years working with substandard tools before this!

Anyway, if you think the knives you use for slicing and dicing don’t matter, then you’re really missing out. I recommend checking out some high quality kitchen knife sets for the sake of comparison. But be warned: you probably won’t want to go back to the cheap stuff again!

Deciding to purchase a folding knife dictates that one must review all the different characteristic that are offered. Much like getting that new car, one must do their part in doing the research to get the right one. Blade characteristics, handle composite, and overall configurations must be looked at by the purchaser and deemed appropriate for the purchase of the knife.

You did it, you are going to get that new knife. It could be for self protection, the fall hunting trip, or fishing. Its a important decision. Its important cause that new knife will be asked to complete some pretty tough duties. Get the incorrect knife for the job and your task has now become much tougher than originally intended. So there are three qualities that need to be addressed by you when making your decision.

1. As to what the actual blade is made of is very important. Blades are now made of various materials that all have different qualities. The most ideal ones are the time tested steel made ones. Premium grade steel is by far the best but are found on the custom version. If you can get one of these you won’t be sorry. This material tends to be much more resistant to wear and does not need the attention that other materials do. The only issue might be that once this blade needs attention, it is much tougher to sharpen due to its toughness.

2. Another important thing to look at is the housing unit or the storage compartment that the folding knife actually folds into. This can also greatly vary depending on the knife. Such material as plastics, composites, and metal are often used. Now what is best depends on the user. There is not right or wrong answer as long as buyer address concerns such as weight, water resistance, and slip proof features.

3. Last but not least, look at how the blade is designed and its overall length. Blades and knives have undergone a change in recent year and can vary greatly. As tempted as one might get to try a new fancy design, stick to the old time design. There is a reason it has been around for so long. Finally make sure that the length of the knife suits your needs for the job.

Lastly, make sure to carefully review all the items above to ensure you get the proper folding knife. Notice that I did not mention cost of the item as that should factor in at the end. Remember if you go cheap then you will get a cheap knife. Get the top notch product and it will take care of you for years to come. You won’t regret it.

Learn more about a folding knife. Stop by this site where you can find out all about folding knives and what they can do for you.

A very popular tradition at a wedding is the cutting of the cake. This is when the bride and the groom cut the cake and feed it to each other as husband and wife. Some couple are very reserved when the feed the cake to one another and others almost start a food fight. I personally think it is always sweeter when the couple is very careful when feeding the other person. It shows the respect that they have for each other. Either way there is something that you have to have and this is the wedding knife and cake server set. choosing the right set can be a stressful time. There are so many different styles to choose from. Below is a list of some of the different styles that you can choose from.

Personalized: This is when the couple can engrave their names/or the date of their special day on the actual cake server set. This is very sentimental and it is great to pass down to the following generation.

Gold: Gold is always a classy look. You need to be careful though, gold can clash with some colors. Gold has been a metal of choice for a long time now so you don’t really have to worry about it going out of style.

Crystal: One thing nice about crystal is it matches every color. Crystal is something that will add a lot to your wedding. Some people like the flashy look for a wedding and if that is you, crystal is a great choice.

* White: Classic in every sense of the word. White is always appropriate and will go with everything. If you are a little on the traditional side, you can’t go wrong with white. Out of any of the options available, white has been with weddings the longest.

* Ivory: Ivory has always been coveted. Ivory has an inviting look. Who can resist the warm feel of it? Especially if it is not a first wedding. But, even if it is, ivory has a charm all its own.

* Colored: You can choose a color based on your own theme and personality. You can tie the set in nicely with a color that matches everything else.

* Without Accents: What if you just can’t choose? If everything else fails, and you simply don’t want all the fancy handles that you have seen, selecting one without any accents is perfectly acceptable. Some people have a more simple taste, and would rather do without all the fluff, and this type will suit them much better. This set will get the job done just fine, and maybe fit you a little bit better. Maybe you are one of those that doesn’t want to spend more than you need to on the cake set. If this is the case, then this one is the way to go.

The wedding knife and cake server set is part of a big tradition that has been around a long time. Just don’t worry too much about all the small things for your wedding.

When planning a wedding there is always a lot to decide. Make one thing less stressful by buying the best wedding knife and cake server set here. You can also shop for all your wedding supplies here.

The knife has come to symbolize to the modern man, the essence of survival and the ability to provide all that is needed for survival with one simple and lethal tool.

The knife has come to symbolize to the modern man, the essence of survival and the ability to provide all that is needed for survival with one simple and lethal tool.

A knife should be able to protect you well, build you a haven, and keep you alive. They should be multifunction.

In fact, people still went out from their house with knife until about a century ago. The need of security has a lot to explain this habit.

You never know into what situations you will run into, you may get lost and need to survive for a couple of days in the wild or be surprised by an enemy or thief and need some sort of protection.

It is a simple fact that no one knife can have all the features needed. Every knife has its advantages and anyone using a knife will have to make his own decision as to what kind of things are important for him to have on his knife.

It is not only the extra features of the knife that matter, it is also the way the knife itself is crafted and what it is made of.

Today most people are looking for a knife to serve them when they are away in nature for a few days, or sometimes a few weeks. They need something that is very basic and that will provide them with the safety that it could potentially provide them in case something goes wrong.

What are outdoor activities in the nature that can be dangerous? Well, hiking, fishing, caving, scuba diving, camping, and climbing are some good examples where you may face unexpected danger.

Try and think of the environment you are going to be in as well as your needs. Sometimes someone does need to hunt with his knife, but does not need to prepare the food from the hunted animal. In some cases you will be walking through a jungle and you might want to use the knife to carve your way out of some thick bushes.

If you do your research and spend some time thinking of what you need you will have a better starting point, try and use the internet for information about different kinds of knives.

Spyderco Endura C10 Black Knife: Spyderco does not make a lot of black coated knives in regular runs like most of the big companies out there, and instead released them in small numbers for certain models only. Usualy only a few models are available in black at a time such as the Paramilitary, Native and Delica models. Even with their size,Spyderco has a grassroots feel to it because owner Sal Glasser is still very involved in the knife community.

Spyderco Merlin Knife C21/C08: Yet another Spyderco, same FRN construction, though this Merlin here is a bit of a rarer knife. The Merlin is basically an FRN version of the Harpy, with slight differences in blade steel, shape and thickness. This Spyderco Merlin is a plain edge model, which is extremely rare as they are no longer made.

Peter Marker Micro Damascus Folder: Here is another remarkably well-made folder from Australia’s Peter Marker. Unfortunately Peter is no longer making knives as far as I know, but his legacy lives on through the many knives he made during his career. My favourite thing about Peter’s knives were that they were always Damascus, and always affordable. He was the only maker that would sell a perfectly made damascus folder for $350.

Spyderco Cricket FRN C29 Knife: Since I reviewed the Ying Yang cricket I wasn’t going to review this FRN cricket, however this one is plain edged, and different enough I figured I would at least give a short review of it. The Cricket is definately one of the more popular ladies knives available, and due to the blade shape, works very well with textiles.

William Henry S07 Evolution G-10 Knife: The Evolution series of knives from William Henry are entry level luxury utility folders with a bit of tactical flair, with the shadow-boxed handles and G-10 handle material. The frames are stainless steel, and the William Henry logo is set in a globe, indicating it’s overseas origin. In the case of these Evolution folders, production took place in Japan. Not too shabby.

Matt Cucchiara Small Poncho Folding Knife: The second of two Matt Cucchiara knives in my collection, the Small Poncho was something I asked Matt if he would consider making after I saw his full sized one. I really have a thing for blades in the 3 to 3 1/2 inch zone, and this one would go well with the Sirocco that I already had.

Buck Mini Strider Tanto 881: I remember the day that Strider announced its collaboration with Buck was a very happy day for me along with a lot of knifeknuts, because it meant that all of us that either could not afford Striders or could not justify the price of a Strider could finally own one and see what was so darn special about them.

CRKT E-Lock Bronze Folding Knife: Among most knife Collectors, CRKT has the image of being an entry level brand that uses entry level cutlery steels, and affordable materials in the production of their knives. That may be true to some degree, but CRKT sells a lot of knives, and has some great designers collaborating with them. One of them is Allen Elishewitz.

Ceramic blade knives appear unusual, this maybe because we associate the ceramic material with delicate cups and saucers, Ceramic knives are different and are made from zirconium oxide which is one of the hardest substances on the planet, this helps give them properties which are seen by many as making them into some of the best chef’s knives.

1 Sharpness Of The Ceramic Knife Blade

A great benefit of a ceramic knife blade is its extreme sharpness. This will enable you to slice through just about any food effortlessly. It will also be safer as the knife will be less likely to slip so when you are slicing the tomatoes or any other vegetable very thinly it will grab at the flesh immediately.

2 Almost Never Get Blunt

You will not need to worry about sharpening the Kyocera ceramic knife for months, as due to the very tough material it is made from will ensure its sharpness.

3 The Kyocera Ceramic Knife Clever And Lightweight Construction

The lightness of ceramic over steel is very obvious when you first pick the knife. This is an added bonus and will help stop muscle fatigue it chopping for a long time. If you are a professional chef who uses a knife all day then this is a godsend.

4 No Unwanted Tastes On Your Food

Carbon steel blades can sometimes leave a metallic taste on vegetables and fruit; this is not a problem with a ceramic blade as it will not cause a chemical reaction between the blade and the food.

5 Balance And Construction Of Knife

The Kyocera ceramic knives are beautifully balanced and because the handle is bonded to the blade there will not be the problem of the handle pulling away from the blade.

All in all they are a great choice for a knife whether you are cooking at home or in a professional kitchen. With the right care they should give you years of trouble free cutting.

There are many different types of knives available, and as with many other tools, if you don't have the right one, it's likely to cause problems.

There are many different types of knives available, and as with many other tools, if you don’t have the right one, it’s likely to cause problems. A good quality knife will last a lifetime with minimal care. Here are a few tips for choosing the right knife for your outdoor sport.

Nearly all hunting knives are intended for skinning. If you would like your knife to be excellent for skinning, the most important thing you should look for is the nature of the blade. You want a rounded or drop point so that when you are “ripping” the skin, the point of your knife will not dig into the meat. Also, you’ll likely want a nonmoving blade knife, as folding blades have too many gaps where blood and mess can get trapped.

Deciding on a knife for camping can be difficult because you need a knife with versatile functions. You may need this knife to prepare food, trim branches, amend gear, as well as a hundred other purposes. On these grounds, you’ll frequently notice that a Swiss army knife or multi tool may satisfy your needs best. Also, you may prefer to include a saw, hatchet, or machete in your pack prior to leaving for harder cutting jobs.

You should probably obtain a fillet knife for fishing. A fillet knife is well constructed for cleaning fish, and it can cut fishing line well, another critical chore for a fishing knife. There are also electric fillet knives for the fisherman that is constantly catching umpteen fish. If you plan to fish in salt water, be confident that your knife is designed to defy the corrosion of saltwater.

Trappers will typically want a skinning knife, much equivalent to a hunting knife. A fixed blade or a folding knife will work equally well; this would be a preference of the sportsman. Tougher tasks are usually completed with an axe, so a second knife isn’t normally obligatory.

A boater’s main need for a knife is cutting line. You’ll need a sharp knife that is easily accessible and quickly deployed, in case you need to cut a line in a hurry. Be sure that the knife will stand up to wet conditions, too. It is evident that each outdoor sport needs a specific knife. Buy a quality knife and your tasks will be easier and a quality knife will often be passed on to your kids.

Sports enthusiast Ethan O. Tanner gives his knowledge on different kinds of knives for outdoor sports and how to choose the best knife for your sport.
If you are looking for a high quality folding pocket knife, the Spyderco knives are where to look first. The Spyderco Caly 3 is an excellent every day carry(edc) knife. It is small, elegant, and you will hardly notice it in your pocket. It will be very rare to find a bad review on the Caly 3. For what it is, it is close to perfection. The Spyderco Caly 3 comes in 2 different forms. A carbon fiber handle with zdp blade steel and a G10 handle with VG-10 blade steel. I opted to get the G10 version as it is more practical and the steel is easier to sharpen albeit slightly inferior. This knife is small! it is very compact. The reason I choose to carry this knife had much to do with my state law. In Rhode Island, it is illegal to carry a knife with blade length longer than 3 inches. You have to play the cards you are dealt. Besides the size, I noticed that it was extremely comfortable in hand. The ergonomics are incredible. I am 5'10" and have medium hands. It fits perfectly. The Knife does not look like a traditional knife but do not let the looks fool you. It is incredibly comfortable to hold. It is a bit heavier than my Spyderco Delica Wave, but in a good way. The Caly 3 feels high quality and durable.

I am 5’10″ and have medium hands. It fits perfectly. The Knife does not look like a traditional knife but do not let the looks fool you. It is incredibly comfortable to hold. It is a bit heavier than my Spyderco Delica Wave, but in a good way. The Caly 3 feels high quality and durable.

My brand new Caly 3 was not perfect out of the box. The deployment of the blade was slow. After a few hundred openings, it was fine. The lock back is solid. My being a left-hander, I preferred lock backs over liner locks. If a knife is not available to accommodate left-handers, I will pass. Fortunately, this wonderful knife is ambidextrous. The Caly 3 has a good pocket clip. It is a paper clip design and it allows the know to hang deep in the pocket. You can slip your knife in and out of your pocket easily but the clip is very strong. It’s a great clip design that should be standard on all Sypdercos.

The blade is very thin. The grind is full flat grind. This means the bevel starts at the spine of the blade making the edge come to a very thin point. The angle is more acute making this blade an excellent slicer. I am fairly good at sharpening. I can put a decent honing edge sharpening freehand. Lately, I have been using the Spyderco Sharpmaker to sharpen my knives. I recommend using the Sharpmaker simply because it makes sharpening easier. It is no substitute for freehand sharpening but it’s definitely convenient.

Some weeks ago, I saw a video where a man modified his knife with a zip tie. This made his knife “waved”. Emerson patented their “wave” design which allows the knife the ability to be opened while being pull out of the pocket. I adopted this zip tie mod and I found it very effective. My Caly 3 gets used hard. Some people like to keep their knives clean and there is nothing wrong with that. I, however, like to keep my knives for utility purposes. I like to use my knives.

I love this knife! I also own a Spyderco Native and I used to own a Delica Wave. The Caly 3 is my favorite knife. If the laws would allow it, I would carry a Police 3 G10. Spyderco makes great knives and once you own 1, you have to have more. This knife is so beautiful. It is a gentleman’s folder. I purchased mine for around $100 but I am sure you can get it cheaper now. Either way, you will be glad you bought this knife. This knife is a jewel.
