Deciding to purchase a folding knife dictates that one must review all the different characteristic that are offered. Much like getting that new car, one must do their part in doing the research to get the right one. Blade characteristics, handle composite, and overall configurations must be looked at by the purchaser and deemed appropriate for the purchase of the knife.

You did it, you are going to get that new knife. It could be for self protection, the fall hunting trip, or fishing. Its a important decision. Its important cause that new knife will be asked to complete some pretty tough duties. Get the incorrect knife for the job and your task has now become much tougher than originally intended. So there are three qualities that need to be addressed by you when making your decision.

1. As to what the actual blade is made of is very important. Blades are now made of various materials that all have different qualities. The most ideal ones are the time tested steel made ones. Premium grade steel is by far the best but are found on the custom version. If you can get one of these you won’t be sorry. This material tends to be much more resistant to wear and does not need the attention that other materials do. The only issue might be that once this blade needs attention, it is much tougher to sharpen due to its toughness.

2. Another important thing to look at is the housing unit or the storage compartment that the folding knife actually folds into. This can also greatly vary depending on the knife. Such material as plastics, composites, and metal are often used. Now what is best depends on the user. There is not right or wrong answer as long as buyer address concerns such as weight, water resistance, and slip proof features.

3. Last but not least, look at how the blade is designed and its overall length. Blades and knives have undergone a change in recent year and can vary greatly. As tempted as one might get to try a new fancy design, stick to the old time design. There is a reason it has been around for so long. Finally make sure that the length of the knife suits your needs for the job.

Lastly, make sure to carefully review all the items above to ensure you get the proper folding knife. Notice that I did not mention cost of the item as that should factor in at the end. Remember if you go cheap then you will get a cheap knife. Get the top notch product and it will take care of you for years to come. You won’t regret it.

The knife has come to symbolize to the modern man, the essence of survival and the ability to provide all that is needed for survival with one simple and lethal tool.

The knife has come to symbolize to the modern man, the essence of survival and the ability to provide all that is needed for survival with one simple and lethal tool.

A knife should be able to protect you well, build you a haven, and keep you alive. They should be multifunction.

In fact, people still went out from their house with knife until about a century ago. The need of security has a lot to explain this habit.

You never know into what situations you will run into, you may get lost and need to survive for a couple of days in the wild or be surprised by an enemy or thief and need some sort of protection.

It is a simple fact that no one knife can have all the features needed. Every knife has its advantages and anyone using a knife will have to make his own decision as to what kind of things are important for him to have on his knife.

It is not only the extra features of the knife that matter, it is also the way the knife itself is crafted and what it is made of.

Today most people are looking for a knife to serve them when they are away in nature for a few days, or sometimes a few weeks. They need something that is very basic and that will provide them with the safety that it could potentially provide them in case something goes wrong.

What are outdoor activities in the nature that can be dangerous? Well, hiking, fishing, caving, scuba diving, camping, and climbing are some good examples where you may face unexpected danger.

Try and think of the environment you are going to be in as well as your needs. Sometimes someone does need to hunt with his knife, but does not need to prepare the food from the hunted animal. In some cases you will be walking through a jungle and you might want to use the knife to carve your way out of some thick bushes.

If you do your research and spend some time thinking of what you need you will have a better starting point, try and use the internet for information about different kinds of knives.

Kai USA is probably one of the most reputable knife manufacturers in the world, and their flagship Kershaw knives brands have a solid reputation of being manufactured to the highest standards. As a result, millions of people around the world have become loyal fans, but this also means that they have a high level of expectation when they purchase a Kershaw knife. If you’ve had the opportunity to inspect a Kershaw Blur knife, then you’ll no doubt have noticed just how much attention has been paid to detail in order to make the knife aesthetically appealing, while at the same time ensuring that its quality and effectiveness is in no way compromised.

One of the first things you’ll notice is that it has the most amazing grip. Bear in mind that the Kershaw Blur incorporates a flatter handle than most of the other models, and for this reason the manufacturer had to make absolutely certain that there is sufficient grip to allow the user to handle the knife with ease.

When you first pick up the knife you immediately notice how incredibly light the handle actually is, but then again it has been made from anodized aluminum, an extremely durable material used primarily in the aircraft manufacturing industry. This light weight handle has also resulted in the knife having a weight of approximately 4.2 ounces, even though it measures four and a half inches long.

The blade is made from stainless steel thereby making it strong and resilient against corrosion. The knife is shipped with the blade already sharpened so you will not need to do that on your own. When compared to other knives used in similar conditions, the sharpened blade of a Kershaw Blur retains its sharpness for a much longer duration.

The only thing that loyal fans may have something to moan about is that the new Kershaw Blur incorporates an integrated thumb stud rather than the usual trigger. In reality however, this change in design won’t cause any problems with regards to the usability of the knife, but instead, if you’re accustomed to the old design then you may find the thumb stud a little uncomfortable.

In order to minimize the risk of a handler accidentally cutting themselves, Kershaw Blur has made a point of retaining their Speed Safe concept, and the ability to open the blade with only one hand has also been retained.

Another important point to note is that even though the knife is made from stainless steel, it is important to note that it is not 100% immune to corrosion. There are instances where the Kershaw Blur may start to accumulate rust. That said, unless one is keeping the knife in an overly humid environment, the chances of this happening for the ordinary Kershaw Blur user are relatively low.

The choice of color from red, black and gray means one is not limited in color preferences. With a $60 to $65 price tag, the amount of value the Kershaw Blur knife delivers is worth the price. Kershaw Blur knives can be purchased from your local store as well as online.

As we all know, knives have played an important role in society for thousands of years already, but of course things have changed dramatically over the years. For example, modern man uses weapons which are noticeably more powerful nowadays, and even the way in which we hunt has changed. Even so, every hunter still carries a knife, and for that matter, so do many others, be it for whatever reason. There is however one specific knife that has always stood out above the crowd and that is the Buck Folding Hunter 110.

This specific knife first arrived on the market back in 1962, and at the time it was the center of attention in that it was one of the first knives to feature a folding handle, and of course 1962 was also the year in which manufacturers began paying attention to knife safety for the first time. Not only did the Buck Folding Hunter 110 feature a folding handle, but it also included a special safety release so that the knife couldn’t fold into the closed position accidentally. Obviously, this was an extremely important feature in that it effectively prevented you from being able to get your fingers caught between the blade and the handle.

The knife has many different features that help it to stand apart from all the competition. The first thing that you will notice is the handle. It is wood grained and easy to hold. The handle itself is typically elongated so that you can hold it in your hand comfortably without it slipping and having the blade cut your fingers.

Another important feature worth mentioning is the fact that the blade is manufactured from 420 HC steel, and in order to make sure the knife doesn’t fall apart in your hands, it’s been constructed using strong rivets. Weighing in at approximately 7.2 ounces, the Buck Folding Hunter 110 measures just less than five inches when in the closed position.

No matter how tempted you may be, you shouldn’t even consider purchasing a cheap imitation, and you can be rest assured that the market is full of cheap imitations. Admittedly, these imitations won’t cost as much as the real thing, and you may even be happy with one for a while, but before long you’ll soon realize that you’ve made a grave mistake. After all, why would you want a Buck Folding Hunter 110 if you didn’t need a knife you can rely on?

Before you purchase your knife from a vendor you should make sure you study their credentials before handing over your hard earned cash. Also, if you decide to buy your knife online then you should try to determine whether or not the seller has any feedback, in that you certainly don’t want to be buying your knife from a seller that has proven to be untrustworthy. Not only would you be running the risk of losing your money, but you could also end up with a cheap imitation. The bottom line is; you need to be sure that you’re buying a good quality knife before you dish out your credit card number.

Have you ever been invited for dinner only to find that you can barely cut your meat with the knives given to you? How embarrassing! For everyone! Of course, a good set of kitchen knives would have prevented this problem. So, before you return the dinner invitation, make sure you have some great cutlery so your own guests can get through dinner without the embarrassment of eating their steak with their fingers!

When Martha Stewart decided to redo her Connecticut home, one of the most important design changes in her new kitchen was the addition of custom made drawers where she could keep her uber-expensive cutlery. Not content with just throwing them in a drawer, she had drawers designed that were padded, temperature controlled, and large enough so that each knife (and she has lots!) had room to lie flat without touching another one.

Even though this is the ideal way to keep high end cutlery in perfect condition for decades and decades, in the real world, most people just don’t have the room for this kind of luxury.

If you have never invested in good knives, this is a good time to do some research and learn how to buy them when the time comes. Whether your cooking abilities are limited to easy Sunday breakfasts, or you entertain large crowds on a regular basis, quality knives will make your life much easier. Even culinary students are urged to spend as much as possible on a set of knives because they will, when treated with care, last forever.

A decent set of knives can be found for around $100. A superb set of knives is going to set you back a few thousand dollars. If you tend to cook fairly simple meals, or maybe you are a vegetarian, you will need to decide how you plan on using the knives before selecting which ones to buy.

You certainly don’t want to be spending money for knives that will just collect dust. If your hobby is baking, find a set that can help you slice almonds, dice ginger and quarter apricots. If cook old fashioned home cooking is your preference, get a set that handle meats, vegetables and fish.

Keep in mind: price does not equal quality. To check for quality, make certain you can see what they call the “tang”. This is the piece of metal that should run through the entire knife in one piece, starting at the tip of the blade. The blade is part of the tang, and it should continue into the handle. One piece of metal (forged is best) ensures added stability.

Without this strength added, you can easily break off the blade just doing something simple like chopping an onion. Watch some Japanese chefs – their style dictates that they literally bang their knives onto the chopping blocks for effect. If they weren’t using excellent quality knives with forged one piece tangs, their blades were be coming off in mid air!

Make certain that you are selecting the perfect kitchen knife when you cook! Selecting the right kitchen knives will make your cooking experience fun and easy!

Spyderco Endura C10 Black Knife: Spyderco does not make a lot of black coated knives in regular runs like most of the big companies out there, and instead released them in small numbers for certain models only. Usualy only a few models are available in black at a time such as the Paramilitary, Native and Delica models. Even with their size,Spyderco has a grassroots feel to it because owner Sal Glasser is still very involved in the knife community.

Spyderco Merlin Knife C21/C08: Yet another Spyderco, same FRN construction, though this Merlin here is a bit of a rarer knife. The Merlin is basically an FRN version of the Harpy, with slight differences in blade steel, shape and thickness. This Spyderco Merlin is a plain edge model, which is extremely rare as they are no longer made.

Peter Marker Micro Damascus Folder: Here is another remarkably well-made folder from Australia’s Peter Marker. Unfortunately Peter is no longer making knives as far as I know, but his legacy lives on through the many knives he made during his career. My favourite thing about Peter’s knives were that they were always Damascus, and always affordable. He was the only maker that would sell a perfectly made damascus folder for $350.

Spyderco Cricket FRN C29 Knife: Since I reviewed the Ying Yang cricket I wasn’t going to review this FRN cricket, however this one is plain edged, and different enough I figured I would at least give a short review of it. The Cricket is definately one of the more popular ladies knives available, and due to the blade shape, works very well with textiles.

William Henry S07 Evolution G-10 Knife: The Evolution series of knives from William Henry are entry level luxury utility folders with a bit of tactical flair, with the shadow-boxed handles and G-10 handle material. The frames are stainless steel, and the William Henry logo is set in a globe, indicating it’s overseas origin. In the case of these Evolution folders, production took place in Japan. Not too shabby.

Matt Cucchiara Small Poncho Folding Knife: The second of two Matt Cucchiara knives in my collection, the Small Poncho was something I asked Matt if he would consider making after I saw his full sized one. I really have a thing for blades in the 3 to 3 1/2 inch zone, and this one would go well with the Sirocco that I already had.

Buck Mini Strider Tanto 881: I remember the day that Strider announced its collaboration with Buck was a very happy day for me along with a lot of knifeknuts, because it meant that all of us that either could not afford Striders or could not justify the price of a Strider could finally own one and see what was so darn special about them.

CRKT E-Lock Bronze Folding Knife: Among most knife Collectors, CRKT has the image of being an entry level brand that uses entry level cutlery steels, and affordable materials in the production of their knives. That may be true to some degree, but CRKT sells a lot of knives, and has some great designers collaborating with them. One of them is Allen Elishewitz.

Ceramic blade knives appear unusual, this maybe because we associate the ceramic material with delicate cups and saucers, Ceramic knives are different and are made from zirconium oxide which is one of the hardest substances on the planet, this helps give them properties which are seen by many as making them into some of the best chef’s knives.

1 Sharpness Of The Ceramic Knife Blade

A great benefit of a ceramic knife blade is its extreme sharpness. This will enable you to slice through just about any food effortlessly. It will also be safer as the knife will be less likely to slip so when you are slicing the tomatoes or any other vegetable very thinly it will grab at the flesh immediately.

2 Almost Never Get Blunt

You will not need to worry about sharpening the Kyocera ceramic knife for months, as due to the very tough material it is made from will ensure its sharpness.

3 The Kyocera Ceramic Knife Clever And Lightweight Construction

The lightness of ceramic over steel is very obvious when you first pick the knife. This is an added bonus and will help stop muscle fatigue it chopping for a long time. If you are a professional chef who uses a knife all day then this is a godsend.

4 No Unwanted Tastes On Your Food

Carbon steel blades can sometimes leave a metallic taste on vegetables and fruit; this is not a problem with a ceramic blade as it will not cause a chemical reaction between the blade and the food.

5 Balance And Construction Of Knife

The Kyocera ceramic knives are beautifully balanced and because the handle is bonded to the blade there will not be the problem of the handle pulling away from the blade.

All in all they are a great choice for a knife whether you are cooking at home or in a professional kitchen. With the right care they should give you years of trouble free cutting.

Now after a century of business, Farberware offers many kitchen gadgets and accessories covering the spectrum from home appliances to tableware to barbecue accessories. One of its quality made product lines is kitchen knives, which have been made into five series. According to its website, these five include the Farberware Millennium, the Stainless Soft Grip, the Farberware Classic Series, the Farberware Professional and the Farberware kitchen knife sets, all of which feature non-slip handles.

Product Features

The Millennium series is made with stainless steel handles and fine-edged blades which happen to be dishwasher-safe, renedering them more user-friendly than many good quality cutlery sets. The Stainless Soft Grip series possesses the same attributes present in the Millennium series aside from the issue that hand washing is recommended. The Professional Series has the same attributes as the other series plus that these handles use three rivets to ensure stability and strength.

The Classic Series and the Ultraedge Pro Series of the Farberware kitchen knife set reportedly call for no blade sharpening because of their high-carbon stainless steel blades, which have become admittedly the most popular blades for cutlery recently. With their non-slip handles constructed from polypropylene, and Faberware makes a great product. All you need to remember, though, is which Faberware knife set calls for hand washing rather than dishwasher cleaning.

Advantages

Well, if you might be the sort who doesn’t clean knives right when you use them, but would rather put your cutlery into the dishwasher, the Farberware Millenium series would be perfect for you. Even with the Millenium knives, you ought to keep in mind that even the highest kind of steel will rust after too many exposures to the chemicals employed by a dishwasher.

Additionally, several of the Farberware knives are constructed using high-carbon stainless steel, that is proven to be highly-resistant to stains and rust. While carbon steel is not as simple to sharpen as usual stainless steel blades, the supposed “no need for sharpening” advantage easily offsets it.

The Cuisinart blades are always forged, not cold rolled, which makes for properly balanced blades that are light in your hands but heavy on the cutting jobs. Of course, these abilities are present with nearly all forged knives, so this isn’t much to get excited about.

What’s more, if you are a person who would prefer to enjoy coordinated utensils but loses them more than usual, you may be happy to note that the pieces of any Faberware knife set could be bought at any better retailer around the country. After all, Farberware is nearly everywhere!

Disadvantages

The relatively narrow handles of nearly all pieces in a Faberware knife set can create a problem for people with large hands. While the blades work satisfactorily normally, getting a good grip on the handles can be difficult, especially when your hands are wet.

An unfortunate aspect of the “no need for sharpening” claim, this could be relevant only to repeated uses, because you still need to sharpen Faberware knives right out of the package. After that, you can just do the maintenance to make the knives as well as possible. (Apparently, the “no need for sharpening” claim is simply a marketing gimmick)

The final verdict concerning a Faberware kitchen knife set: It’s an average knife set which might be acquired for an average price. For more complicated kitchen procedures, you may as well spend more money to acquire professional quality knives. For everyday uses in a home, a Farberware kitchen knife will manage just fine.

Moses Harun owns … operates a site that assists consumers in making better decision when shopping for knives. One of the highest rated knives reviewed on his site are Farberware Kitchen Knife Sets.

There are many different types of knives available, and as with many other tools, if you don't have the right one, it's likely to cause problems.

There are many different types of knives available, and as with many other tools, if you don’t have the right one, it’s likely to cause problems. A good quality knife will last a lifetime with minimal care. Here are a few tips for choosing the right knife for your outdoor sport.

Nearly all hunting knives are intended for skinning. If you would like your knife to be excellent for skinning, the most important thing you should look for is the nature of the blade. You want a rounded or drop point so that when you are “ripping” the skin, the point of your knife will not dig into the meat. Also, you’ll likely want a nonmoving blade knife, as folding blades have too many gaps where blood and mess can get trapped.

Deciding on a knife for camping can be difficult because you need a knife with versatile functions. You may need this knife to prepare food, trim branches, amend gear, as well as a hundred other purposes. On these grounds, you’ll frequently notice that a Swiss army knife or multi tool may satisfy your needs best. Also, you may prefer to include a saw, hatchet, or machete in your pack prior to leaving for harder cutting jobs.

You should probably obtain a fillet knife for fishing. A fillet knife is well constructed for cleaning fish, and it can cut fishing line well, another critical chore for a fishing knife. There are also electric fillet knives for the fisherman that is constantly catching umpteen fish. If you plan to fish in salt water, be confident that your knife is designed to defy the corrosion of saltwater.

Trappers will typically want a skinning knife, much equivalent to a hunting knife. A fixed blade or a folding knife will work equally well; this would be a preference of the sportsman. Tougher tasks are usually completed with an axe, so a second knife isn’t normally obligatory.

A boater’s main need for a knife is cutting line. You’ll need a sharp knife that is easily accessible and quickly deployed, in case you need to cut a line in a hurry. Be sure that the knife will stand up to wet conditions, too. It is evident that each outdoor sport needs a specific knife. Buy a quality knife and your tasks will be easier and a quality knife will often be passed on to your kids.

Sports enthusiast Ethan O. Tanner gives his knowledge on different kinds of knives for outdoor sports and how to choose the best knife for your sport.
