The origins of pizza creates quite the debate. A recent archaeological discovery has found a preserved Bronze Age pizza in the Veneto region. By the Middle Ages these early pizzas started to take on a more modern look and taste. The peasantry of the time used what few ingredients they could get their hands on to produce the modern pizza dough and topped it with olive oil and herbs. The pizza has quite the history!

The pizza is an international taste sensation! Local regions have produced their own pizzas and pizza culture. Pizza is such a diverse dish; it can be dressed up, or down and can be eaten at any occasion! Below is a brief look at the different types of pizza.

Neapolitan. Normally cooked in a wood-fired or brick oven, good Neapolitan pizza emerges with an extremely thin, bubbled crust. Slightly charred areas will offer hints of bitterness to offset the sweet-tangy flavor of tomato sauce and the licorice flavor of julienned basil. Scattered pieces of fresh mozzarella accent, rather than cover, the tomato sauce.

New York Style pizza is a hand tossed pizza that has normal amounts of sauce and cheese, the cheese is flexible and is traditionally folded when eaten.

Hawaiian pizza, despite not having been created in Hawaii, is a normal pizza with pineapple and ham as its toppings. This pizza is extremely popular in America, Australia and Sweden; and is gaining popularity in the rest of Europe. The naming comes from the pineapple; it has a warm weather theme to it, hence the Hawaii naming.

Pizza, originally from Italy and introduced to the rest of the world by italian migrants, has become one of the world’s most popular culinary dishes. Australia and USA almost lead the charge in its popularity by adapting original recipes with local delights. Pizza is an all occasion delicacy enjoyed around the world!a

Restaurants Charlottesville (RCV) goes in depth to review restaurants and event venues in the small but increasingly popular town of Charlottesville and other venues in Albemarle County and the Shenandoah Valley. Touted by Cities Ranked and Rated as the best town to live in America back in 2004, Charlottesville has continued to get better and better. One of the biggest reasons for this small town, totalling around 100,000 residents while the University of Virginia is in session, is because it’s unique mixture of widely varied unique, special restaurant offerings, and it’s vibrant local music scene.

Boasting an ever increasing blend of different kinds of foods wrapped in a seemingly endless array of out-of-the-box themes, Charlottesville has the kind of selection and quality that folks usually have to suffer the big prices and high stress conditions of big city living to enjoy. And Charlottesville actually has a more exciting music and events situation than many cities ten times its size!

Here’s the rundown: RCV has a strict standard where we don’t just visit a restaurant or local business and then pass judgement after a couple of short hours. After all it’s easy for anyone to put their best foot forward for a couple of hours. And at the same time even the most consistent, high value businesses hit minor bumps in the road. So RCV has been conducting a still ongoing careful examination of the many established and new restaurants that have sprung up in Charlottesville for over two years before we launched. And we’re here to share the inside scoop so folks will know not just where to go, but when and what they might enjoy most when they get there!

Cuisine and Beverages: Looking to enjoy the beauty of the Universtiy grounds but looking for a bite or a fun place to spend an evening? Three, Biltmore and the Virginian are all great. But nothing beats the 24-hour feast availible at Little John’s New York Style Deli (Try the Chris Long sub. Yum!). What about something a little off the beaten path? Try Continental Divide, Shebeen (Which is supposed to be South African food…but according to South Africans I’ve visited with isn’t. Still it’s good.) Or you could pop by Bijou on the downtown mall for a fresh tasty sandwich. Looking for something classier? Zocolo on the downtown mall is fun. And everyone loves Maya in Bellmont for Southern fare and the music.

The Music Scene: Charlottesville didn’t just beget Dave Matthews Band, but it also started the careers of other hit bands like Earth to Andy, Everything and Fighting Gravity. John Paul Jones Arena’s lineup for 2010 includes Taylor Swift, John Mayer, George Strait and Paramore. But it’s the local music that so often makes dining and drinking in Charlottesville such a treat! Eating venues that specialize in promoting local acts and DJ music include Millers, where Dave Matthews used to tend bar before becoming an international mega-star, Escafe, X Lounge, and Blue Light Grill.

Looking to find the best deal on keyword #1, then visit www.RestaurantCharlottesville.com to get the inside scoop on the best Charlottesville Restaurant for you. Including music, events and best times.

Want to know how to make pizza crust at home? It's really easy. Follow me.

Want to know how to make pizza crust at home? It’s really easy. Follow me.

Just five ingredients are needed to make a great pizza crust: flour, water, salt, oil and yeast. Look for a recipe on the Internet with at least these five things in it to create a simple, but good, pizza crust.

Before you do anything, measure out all your ingredients and set aside. This will really help make the mixing process go very smoothly.

Add all the dry ingredients to a medium size bowl and mix them together really well. Next add the water which should be at or near a temperature of 105 degrees, the optimum for the yeast to do its thing.

You’ll need a stout spoon or other utensil to combine the ingredients as it gets stiff quickly. Once you have the first ingredients mixed, add the oil. Stir again until everything is incorporated.

Now you have to knead the dough. Put a little flour in a shallow dish next to your work area. You’ll need it soon to keep the dough from sticking to you as you work. Put the dough on a flour-dusted surface and begin kneading.

Kneading is very simple. Just push down and away, flattening the dough as you work. Next fold the dough over itself and rotate 90 degrees. Push down and away again, fold and turn. Repeat this process for about 5 minutes or until the ball of dough takes on a smooth shine and is very elastic when you pull it apart.

Now comes the hardest part of how to make pizza crust, waiting. Put the kneaded dough ball into an oiled bowl, move it around to coat the surface and cover with plastic wrap. Set it in a warm (not hot) place for about two hours or until it doubles in size.

Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface again and flatten and shape it some with your hands. Begin rolling it out with a rolling pin until you get the thickness you want. Many people prefer a 1/8″ thickness.

After rolling, transfer the dough to your baking pan. Be careful as it can tear. If it does, try to pinch it closed. If this doesn’t work, simply wad it up into a ball again and re-roll it. When successful at getting it to the pan, trim as necessary to make it fit and look good.

Remember a short time ago when you asked how to make pizza crust? Now you know! You just did it!

Is there a food item more popular right now than stuffed pizza crust pizza? You see the ads all over the place.

Is there a food item more popular right now than stuffed pizza crust pizza? You see the ads all over the place.

In-store sales and home delivery of stuffed pizza crust pizzas are booming. People are noticing pizza again with this new product. And store owners are already taking advantage of this new interest by charging a premium price for these new pizzas.

With this in mind, we’re going to introduce you to making a stuffed pizza crust pizza at home. You’ll be saving money and you’ll actually be eating a better tasting pie.

Flour, water, oil and yeast are all it takes to make stuffed pizza crust dough. Check the Internet for a generic recipe.

Starting with the flour, make a mound of it on a cutting board. Hollow out a well in the center about six inches in diameter. Pour in your warm water then the packet of dry yeast. Stir the yeast a couple minutes until it gets cloudy and slightly foamy. Add your oil.

Using your fingers, begin stirring the mixture while pulling small amounts of flour into it. Be careful not to take too much flour or the mixture will leak out. Keep doing this in a circular motion until the mixture gets too thick to run, then pull all the flour into the center. Keep folding the stuffed pizza crust dough until a ball forms.

Add a little flour at a time as you begin to knead it to keep it from getting too sticky. After kneading about 5-10 minutes you should have a shiny ball of stuffed pizza crust dough that will bounce back if depressed with a finger.

The stuffed pizza crust dough now needs to proof, or rise. Put it in a bowl and cover it for an hour and a half or so. It will double in size.

Most dough recipes make enough for one very large pizza or two smaller ones. Depending on your needs you can cut the dough in half and freeze the other half or make one big pizza with all the dough.

Roll out the dough to the thickness desired. Begin placing cheese sticks or grated cheese in a narrow row about 1 1/2″ in from the edge of the pizza and go all the way around.

You will now seal in the cheese by folding the dough outside the row, over the row itself. Press it down to form the seal. Go all the way around the pizza until all the cheese has been covered and sealed.

Guess what? You just made your first stuffed pizza crust shell! Now go get those toppings, load it up and shove it in the oven!
