A collection of job classifieds have proven to be valuable for both applicants attempting to get a job and organizations advertising job openings. In spite of their constant application, there is moderate confusion about the different categories of job-connected sites attainable for both job applicants and businesses. Though the differences for job hunters are minute, enterprises publicizing an unfilled spot can recognize enormous differences particularly concerning costs.

A significant fraction of organizations are engaging professionals deploying the Internet and keep on doing so having managed exceptional gains. The expedient elements for both corporations and future employees are in addition a notable appeal. In spite of these gains, umpteen admired job sites impose a large fee for exhibiting a job position and consequently, are infrequently eye-catching to modest setups publicizing customary jobs.

Classifieds regularly do not require a fee for posting open positions and may be as successful for placements that do not need unique capabilities. Jobs regularly noticed on classifieds such as client service careers can be answered adequately by folks with fundamental skills. These opportunities most often demand preparation on the job and experience a reasonable employee redundancy ratio. Because of the conventional structure of the job, employee rotation is not a concern and in addition, aids in retaining modest expenditures.

Bigger organizations scouting team members with particular competencies essentially prefer reliable job sites to classified websites because of their dominance and the supporting options extended by these websites. Particular expedient facilities include a prominent list of appropriate applicants properly bunched by meaningful elements like schooling and performance. This makes determining the perfect individual particularly clear-cut and cuts down the correspondence time for offered posts.

Classified sites also provide a smaller number of options that are satisfactory for regular setups offering typical job openings. Numerous classified sites do rank aspirants into separate specialties and main education categories, but they are no where near the capabilities exhibited by significant job websites that turn out to be very relevant for specialized jobs.

Accordingly, from the job hopeful’s view, publishing an application is more comprehensive in job websites contrary to classified websites. The power to apply significant tools to their benefit is extremely useful in the former while classified sites serve to label individuals into general divisions and recognize a broader assortment of application formats. More often than not this facility proves incredibly fruitful for workers with straightforward traits and narrower abilities. Analysis reports are immensely conducive on classified websites and similar to leading-edge job websites. Lastly, it is gratifying for both job hopefuls and basic enterprises to manage both sorts of sites, as classified sites have been convenient in a considerable number of instances.

Openings typically located in job classifieds require plain qualities and a moderate work history.

Good language skills can open up a world of career opportunities. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a wordsmith and love to immerse yourself in different languages, it may be worth considering a career in translation.

Good language skills can open up a world of career opportunities. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a wordsmith and love to immerse yourself in different languages, it may be worth considering a career in translation. In our global society it’s vital that everyone is able to communicate effectively, and as businesses expand across the world and communities integrate further, a person who is fluent in a foreign language can use their skills to find themselves an exciting and dynamic role in translation. But what kind of work is available and how can you get into a career as a translator?

WORD FOR WORD

Translators work with written material, translating legal documents, websites, business reports, tourism guides and technical manuals. They usually work by translating material into their mother tongue – for example you might find yourself working on a film script or employment contract written in French or Spanish, and translating it accurately into English. Translators need to keep the material in the style that the author originally intended, so must be fluent in the original and target languages and be able to write appropriately for the kind of subject they’re dealing with, as well as having top-notch research skills and IT know-how.

Depending on the kind of assignments you’re involved in, translation work might require specialist knowledge of technical terminology or legal speak, and translators might be required to work with other experts to ensure that their translation is accurate, or meet with clients to discuss their requirements. Of course, many translators have the opportunity to travel or live abroad, employing their skills in the countries in which their languages are spoken – with a career in translation, the world really is your oyster! However, translation is also sometimes seen as a solitary career choice as it can involve a lot of desk work, requiring discipline and self-motivation.

MAKING SENSE OF IT ALL

Translators are usually educated to degree level, and there are specialised degrees available. Heriot-Watt University is home to the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies in Scotland, and the university offers two useful four-year MA degrees – one in Applied Languages and Translation, the other in International Management and Translation, which gives participants the added edge of expertise in business management. There is also a wide range of general language degrees offered by universities across Scotland, all of which would provide a good first step into the profession. After completing a language degree you can obtain a postgraduate Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists. This is an internationally recognised qualification which acts as a benchmark of professional standards – something worth having since translation is a fairly competitive career choice.

According to LearnDirect, translators can expect to earn a starting salary of around 18,000, rising to 30,000 with experience. Highest rates of pay are with international organisations such as the UN and European Commission, but Emma Wagner,

Education Officer with the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, told us that translators working there must have two foreign languages and pass an entrance exam before being considered for employment. Those choosing to work as freelancers are usually paid according to the number of words translated – from 75 to 180 per thousand words, depending on the target language. Many freelancers choose to set up their own translation agencies and, if work dries up, there is always the option of employing their linguistic talents by turning to language teaching or interpreting.

TALK THE TALK

Translation is just one of many career options available to language graduates. Professor Ronnie Ferguson from the School of Modern Languages at the University of St Andrews explains: “Our language graduates go on to a wide variety of careers. Recent graduates have used their acquired skills in directly related professions as translators, interpreters and teachers, either in Britain or abroad.” Clearly these aren’t the only options, although CILT (the National Centre for Languages) claims that there is currently a shortage of language teachers, so that rewarding career option might be worth considering if you like working with people and sharing your knowledge.

If you know your past participles and transitive verbs you’ll probably also be aware that languages are useful in pretty much every employment sector and that language skills can help your employment prospects in areas such as media, engineering or technology. Dr Peter Davies, Head of the Division of European Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh, told us: “A knowledge of foreign languages opens doors that would otherwise stay closed. With one or two foreign languages you have an extra skill which sets you apart from other candidates and is useful for any employer in business, finance, marketing and many other professions.” In fact, 22% of 1,740 Scottish companies asked about foreign languages said that they had a recruitment policy that favours candidates with language skills, according to the Scottish branch of CILT. Language skills can also earn you a bigger pay packet, with people who use languages at work earning anything from 8% to 20% more than their colleagues in similar positions who have no second language. Nice work if you can get it!

LOVING LANGUAGES

Fiona Paterson is a Russian and French translator. She studied translation at Heriot-Watt University, finishing up with a first class degree and also winning the Watt Club Medal, which is awarded to the highest-ranking student in each graduating class. Fiona has been working full-time as a freelancer for eighteen months, having already spent time teaching English in Munich and Krakow.

Fiona translates a wide range of documents, including business correspondence, in-house magazines, websites, academic articles and brochures for art exhibitions. She enjoys the flexibility that freelancing can bring: “I can have a day off when I want, but I also sometimes work in the evenings or at weekends to meet deadlines. You do have to be prepared to put in the hours.” Being able to work where she likes is also a bonus – “I love working at home with my dictionaries, coffee and music!” – but Fiona says that freelancing can be quite insecure, as you never know where the next job is coming from. “It took a good while to set up as a freelancer,” she says. “I’d been doing it for about a year before I began to get a regular flow of work. Six months ago I could go for as much as two weeks without any work. It can be disheartening and you need to think about the financial side of it.”

Fiona advises anyone interested in becoming a translator to complete a degree in languages and then “get a job as an in-house translator, either for an agency or a company such as a bank or an insurance company – a lot of these jobs seem to be abroad. This will give you the background knowledge of a specific area, the contacts and the experience to set up as a freelancer later on.” She also recommends joining a professional body like the Institute of Translating and Interpreting or the Institute of Linguists: “I’m an associate member of the ITI, and find their newsletter, e-groups and workshops invaluable.”

Kasabian have recently been awarded the Q Award for album the year for 2009 for ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’ and are part way through a UK tour. Abbie Bunton had a quick chat with bassist Chris Edwards as he and the band prepared to wow an expectant Glasgow crowd.

How’s you? I’m a big fan. Thanks for taking the time to chat….

No worries…

How did you all meet?

Basically we were all at school. We were all eleven years old. We were board and decided to make up a band.

You all just got into music. What are your influences? Who are you listening to just now? Everyone at the minute. I’ve just had my I-pod playing Led Zeppelin and DJ Shadow. We had quite a few people like ESG which is a dance band.

What’s Kasabian’s song writing process?

Serge comes up with the ideas for the songs and stuff and he’ll put down a little demo in the studio at home and then bring it to the studio where we all kind of add on to it, sort of thing. We make it from a demo to an actual track.

Who came up with the title for the new album?

That was Serge as well. He was watching a TV programme abut a place called West Ryder which is actually a place near Mayfield in Yorkshire. He just saw it on the telly and thought that it would be a cool idea.

It is…

You’ve always got really unusual and abstract video ideas…

We’ve got a guy we work with called Whizz who we did our first video with. He did the Comfort video. He comes up with a treatment or an idea. He brings it to us and we say yea or nay or that’ll be good if we did this instead, or change it round a bit or whatever… So it’s mainly our video director Whizz that comes up with it mainly.

What’s the best gig you played?

One of them would have to be the first time we played the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury. That was pretty special. We played it again this year but there’s something a bit more special about playing it the first time around.

What do you think of Scottish crowds?

Incredible! T in the Park about four years ago still ranks in my top five gigs of all time.

You must be very proud to have won best album of 2009 at the Q Awards.

Yes.

What’s next?

Basically we’re touring the album until the end of the month and then we’re going to have a bit of December for bits and bobs – Christmas; and then we’re back out there. We’re going out to Japan and Australia in January then New York in February so basically we’re touring the album until August next year really. Playing, playing, playing.

Do you have any words of encouragement for young people trying to get into the music industry?

Yeah. Pick up a real guitar. Put down ‘Garage Band’ or whatever you’ve got; ‘Rock Band’ or whatever it’s called. Interact with some real people in a music room. Play some tunes with your mates. You ain’t gonna get there on the Playstation, y’know what I mean? Ten years time we ain’t gonna have no British bands!

Interviewed by Abbie Bunton.

The legal profession offers a variety of roles which can provide a prosperous career, not all the lawyers in the completed a degree in law with 18.5% of a poll of 7000 saying they had a degree in another area and 23% moving from other careers. The industry is thriving and continuing to look for skills offered from a range of backgrounds and different countries.

For those without a Law Degree, the ‘Graduate Diploma in Law’ is the alternative way to qualify. Also known as the Common Professional Exam or a Law Conversion course, it allows graduates with a non-law degree to ‘convert’ their existing education with a one year course.

Regardless of whether you have completed any sort of law degree or qualification, you will still be required to complete a Legal Practice Course. The LPC is the last compulsory academic qualification to become a solicitor. The qualification ensures trainee solicitors have the knowledge and skills they need. This course is offered all over the UK and takes one year full time. To be fully qualified as a solicitor you need to under take a two year ‘Training Contract’ which involves practice based training almost like an apprenticeship.

If you are from outside the UK but within the EU there are a range of rules you must follow if you are a qualified lawyer from and wish to practice law in the UK. Otherwise EU member states are free to do business and offer legal services amongst themselves.

Qualified Lawyers from outside the EU who wish to practice Law in the UK must first get hold of a ‘Certificate of Eligibility’ from the Law Society of England and Wales and then sit the ‘Qualified Lawyers Test’. The QLT is a test which permits foreign lawyers to practice in the UK. To be considered for the QLT you must have over 2 years legal practice experience of which at least one year must have been gained by practising the law of England and Wales, supervised by a solicitor who has been admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

If you are looking for the best legal recruitment then get in contact with Saccomann for help getting the best legal jobs

The driving license is one of a handful of 'must have' qualifications. Here are our top tips on passing the dreaded driving test. Good Luck!

The driving license is one of a handful of ‘must have’ qualifications. Here are our top tips on passing the dreaded driving test. Good Luck!

Your driving test examiner will direct you through the route of the test which will contain a selection of typical road and traffic conditions. They will also ask you to carry out a series of set exercises. You’re bound to make mistakes during the test. The perfect driver is still to be found. You can still pass a test with 15 minor faults or less (although one serious fault will mean failing).

The examiner is looking for a safe overall standard of driving. The test isn’t easy and you’ll need sufficient preparation before you are ready to take it. Around 46% of people pass their driving test but the percentage of first time passes is much smaller than this figure. Scott Malcolm, driving instructor with Fast Pass was kind enough to share the benefit of his experience.

1. Be confident with your manoeuvres. If you are reasonably confident that you can carry out the manoeuvres effectively enough to gain a pass in this area it will leave your mind free to concentrate on your driving.

2. Procedures. Using the MSM (Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre) routine is important, although I prefer the extended version of MSPSL (Mirrors, Signal, Position, Speed, Look) routine, as this acts as a check list during the test and also gives you something to concentrate on if you feel nervous.

3. Observation and Planning. This is one of the most important aspects to be in control of. By looking and scanning as far ahead as you can for road signs, potential or developing hazards and road markings you are free to apply the MSPSL routine as appropriate for the situation. You should be recognising and dealing with hazards as early as possible.

4. Awareness and Anticipation. One of the hardest skills to learn for pupils. Being able to anticipate other road user actions will keep you out of dangerous situations and increase your chances of passing. Watch the way cars wheels turn at roundabouts to see if they are exiting and look into the side mirrors of buses whilst overtaking at bus stops (if conditions dictate) to see if the driver is thinking of moving off or still dealing with passengers.

5. Knowledge of the Highway Code. Obviously a good knowledge of the Highway Code is essential as the examiner wants to see you obey road signs and road markings. Common faults here are not noticing signs, not using bus lanes properly and not returning to the left hand lane where appropriate. 6. Dealing with nerves. There are many weird and wonderful techniques for dealing with nerves. Practise until you feel reasonably confident that you would be able to drive almost anywhere on your own. If you think you could drive on your own then you are ready for your test. Relax and rely on the skills and knowledge passed on to you by your instructor.

Under any economic condition, people will always be regarded as the most important asset to any organisation but in a downturn, the ability to attract and retain the right people can very well be the difference between success and failure. Technology and the ability to effectively implement a robust talent management strategy can often be the key to engaging key employees and ensuring that your organisation are performing as a unit and pulling in the same direction. An end-to-end strategy towards talent management will allow you to identify talent both externally and from within whilst highlighting areas of weakness and concern.

In such a saturated recruitment market it can be extremely difficult to identify external talent. In order to facilitate this process, organisations are increasingly looking at implementing online, erecruitment or Applicant Tracking Systems to effectively and economically attract and hire talented individuals.

It is always important that your organisation has a strong employer brand that stands out from the crowd – no more so than in the current recruitment market place. It is equally vital however, that companies implement strong, strategic core processes to manage the recruitment of the right people both quickly and effectively. Ensuring and delivering a great candidate experience is extremely important. The latest applicant tracking systems allow organisations to deliver effective and comprehensive candidate relationship management – especially in a saturated recruitment market where application volumes are at a particular high – with seamless automation of the entire hiring process.

Volume markets are challenging not only for the recruiter by for the candidate. At times where particularly talented individuals are available (when they may not alternatively be) it is extremely important that your organisation works towards the development of a strong and consistent employer brand. The ability to position your company above the masses will have a lasting impact on the volume of talented applicants your organisation could receive. With this in mind, the online recruitment process should be viewed as an opportunity for employers to build and develop a lasting employer brand and by harnessing this opportunity the focus can turn to market recovery and the development of a strong talent pool. Advancements in the area of Corporate Social Networking and the emergence of platforms such as Linkedin has meant that organisations can now take a proactive approach to working towards the upturn by engaging with and developing strong relationships with both active and passive candidates – the possible key to success in a stronger market.

Using online recruitment software provides the benefits of identifying the key talent, by using an applicant tracking system – this will enable you to measure the ROI, and provide insight into your recruitment process.

Looking to find the best talent management software, then visit www1.jobpartners.com to find the best advice on an applicant tracking system for your organisation.

By simply following instructions keenly, an individual can pave a way towards thrilling experiences involving risking own life to save multiple others. That is exactly the underlying principle for becoming a self-driven fire fighter yet not without fulfilling the demands of a firefighter recruitment procedure. With just an application form, one can increase or decrease the chances of jumping this hurdle by filling in required details.

An aspiring candidate must not let ignorance on provision of personal information tamper with a career path that is just about to begin. It is imperative to take time to produce true answers and if possible revisit that vision of becoming a fire fighter so as to fill in only the material facts. Surprising but true, incomprehensible details concerning prior training and work records limit chances of getting to the selection process.

This is basically the second stage of fire fighter recruitment procedure that brings out the true picture of each potential candidate’s ability to withstand the job pressure. It therefore presents intricate challenges in form of tests that one is required to find practical solutions for. Selection can be said to be the heart of the entire process where many applicants are dropped.

This encompass three key steps the first one being completion of national fire fighter psychological tests that are also categorized the same way starting with numerical abilities. The questions here cover distinct scenarios basically mathematical and each candidate must demonstrate their mental capabilities excellently just as they should scrutinize fire fighter written information that is also varied as the second test.

A predetermined sheet of paper with well-written questions with choices is offered next so that candidates can read, understand and select one correct answer. They actually are abstracts representing a real fire-fighting scenario requiring applicants to respond correspondingly. Those who succeed make use of their logic to work out each of those problems the way the recruiters expect them to.

Frankly, a candidate who is able to complete all the aforementioned steps would only have two remaining of analysing their knowledge on Fire Service Personal Qualities based on a preset scale with seven characteristics. The other imperative detail the recruiters want to ensure whether or not all applicants meet a certain level of physical health. This is not at this point done orally but each of them completes all details as per given form in truth and honesty.

Finally, the long fire fighting recruitment process would soon be complete and every present applicant knowing their fate but not before facing a panel of interviewers. With all the results of all the crucial stages above, they are keen to meet each candidate in person, ask them compelling or simple queries to test their verbal perfection. Similarly, they take that opportunity to substantiate every detail provided earlier yet many fail or embrace their well-merited fire fighter job. All this depends on a particular first impression that each applicant portrays mainly that entice or upset interviewers.

Life as well as property of citizens in any kind of society and community has to be protected. People from the rural, suburban as well as metros, have to rely greatly on the sheriff’s patrol officers as well as the police officers. While some of the officers of the sheriff’s patrol work for the county government, the rest of the police officers work for the city government. Some of the police officers also work for the tribal government, while others work for the public universities, the school districts, college police forces, transportation systems, or the agencies that serve a number of facilities.

It must be noted that these exams are not like the high school exams that you had when you were schooling. Candidates wishing to appear this exam have to give it a serious thought. The exams that you had in school were based entirely on the subjects that you studied in school and as per the syllabus designed for a particular class.

Police exams are designed differently and cover a large number of subjects. The police department is always on the look out for the best of personnel which could assist the police department in its work. They are definitely going to be hard on you, and so the exams too are not going to be very easy. Police training covers many aspects that are required to accomplish your duties well. More than the questions they ask you in an interview it is the grading that is one of the most important aspects for a career in the police force. A job of a police officer involves writing reports in detail which are inevitably viewed by the lawyers and judges in the court of law, so they need to be grammatically correct.

To be an officer you have to learn to orally communicate as well as write detailed reports, and for this your grammar and spellings always have to be perfect. At the time of interview and other assessments seniors can ask you twisted questions that read more like riddles, and you are expected to follow and understand different cases. Besides this you are also trained to improve a number of other abilities which will help you to work at your full capacity in the police force. Persons having an alert mind can do very well in a career in the police force.

This makes it completely your responsibility to ensure that you are geared mentally, emotionally and physically to meet the demands of the job. The training course empowers you to be able to meet up to the challenge and sufficiently cater to the demands of the job profile. There are a number of online as well as offline resources that are now making all the information on police training accessible to you, 24×7. This makes the choice of the best academy a pleasure rather than an ordeal.

It is heartening to know that you can even avail of discounts on the fee structure and learn online. In the latter, you get to learn from state of the art graphics and step by step guidance from professionals via highly interactive forums. The experience is one of a kind, online as well as offline, and the fulfillment that the job profile gets you is absolutely priceless.

In earlier days a person who wanted to find job had to buy a news paper and read the classified ads section then had to print out hard copy of resume and send them out. If some one calls you, it’s ok but most of the times there was no reply. It was a hectic process and all done by manually

As the internet became popular, now a day’s job finding is very easy. You can do everything online. Many new websites and applications are released to manage and help the job searching process. This practice enabled the companies to post the vacancies and receive applications from talents world wide without geographic and time limitation which reduced the cost and time involved for recruiting candidates.

As we know that Most of the countries are now witnessing a growth in their economy. Economic growth rate is a crucial factor in determining the generation of jobs. The disintegrating global economic environment would significantly impact the recruitment market in 2009. The impact of the financial slowdown is restricting recruitment in many countries.

Due to this financial slowdown all global staffing companies feel they are in a better position than smaller companies to manage the current crisis. Smaller staffing agencies are more vulnerable to an economic recession because they depend on high margins to ensure profitability. However, recruitment agencies remain optimistic. They are adopting techniques to manage the crisis.

Technological advancement, globalization of market place combined with an increasing shortage of skilled staff has made it crucial for companies to implement appropriate recruitment practices through out the world.

The recruitment industry is gearing up for these changes by developing strategic alliances and global partnering to ensure access to the best candidates world wide. Professionalism, technical competence and the development of world best practice are trademarks of successful recruitment consultancies.

Outsourcing is the latest trend in the employment sector. Many organizations have moved to outsourcing all of their non-core activities. Outsourcing has created jobs in developing countries like India. Call centers and BPO’s are a direct outcome of outsourcing. The workforce in this sector commands high salaries. This in turn has led to a rise in domestic consumption. This increased consumption has led to more production of goods and it has created more employment. Hence it will not be wrong to say that the service industry has triggered growth in developing countries like India.

Increasingly, recruitment agencies are moving towards sourcing candidates through internet job sites enabling recruitment activity to occur in real time. The ability to recruit internationally has been a huge development and it is beneficial to organizations using these services.

Another international trend has been the rise in the wages in sectors requiring highly skilled professionals. This growth has out done the rise witnessed by those in low-skilled occupations. This has significantly widened the wage gap between highly skilled professionals and those with low skills.

Another significant change in the employment trend has been the rise of the service sector. The service sector has put the economic growth rate in the driver’s seat. Even in a developing country like India, the service sector has been the star performer. This is perhaps also a reason as to why the number of employees engaged in the service sector has shown a steady increase in the past decade.

Shifting from the agriculture sector has been another trend that has come to fore in the international employment scene. While agriculture sector, continues to employ the highest number of people in the world-ILO estimates put the figure at 40.1% in 2005, the number is gradually decreasing. In 1995, 44.4% of the workforce in the world was working in the agriculture sector.
