Occasionally your fingers, in perfect sync with your mind, tap away gracefully on the keyboard and you have no problem in putting down your ideas on paper or into your word processor. At these times you really feel you were born to write. It’s an exhilarating feeling so you feel on top of the world!

Then again there are those occasions when you stare blankly into empty space, perfectly mirroring the void in your thoughts. You wallow in it twiddling your thumbs and you just don’t have a clue as to what to write or do.

Does the scenario sound familiar? If you write for income, you need not worry! You are suffering from writer’s block! Most writers have been there and gone through such a phase.

Sometimes a nice long walk will help you organize your ideas and provides you with a fresh perspective on things! Alternatively you are able to go into the kitchen and cook up something you want to eat! Go and spend an afternoon with all your friends! The theory is always to take a break and do something else you like! You will come back refreshed and feel much better!

If you’re lucky enough to have written a few bestsellers, then one solution is to go on a vacation. There is nothing stopping you from taking a few days off and driving right down to the beach or experiencing some crisp and fresh mountain air. A holiday is a good idea if you want inspiration for your latest writing venture.

But a holiday might not work for two different reasons altogether! For starters, you may not have sufficient cash saved! Two, the problem could be deeper and a vacation would be only a diversion that would in all probability, not open the mental block!

So, where lays the answer? Dig deeper and carry out some introspection and discover what produces the mental block! You have to endure the issues sooner or later and the sooner you do so, the better! If something or someone is bothering you then deal with that something or talk to that somebody and deal with the situation.

One other reason that a number of writers enter a lapse and aren’t able to write is because they wonder whether they are in the right profession! In the event you take a look at things that way then grab an excellent book and study. Notice the author’s style and flow of ideas from a writer’s perspective.

Writing is an excellent profession and you need to be convinced about this if you wish to succeed! Fighting writer’s block caused by a insufficient appreciation for the profession is the most difficult thing to do. But there are times when you may need to light your relationship with writing once again!

People usually go on camping trips to enjoy themselves while spending some time in the great outdoors. Normal people do, at least. We have some family friends that said they absolutely hated camping trips, and would rather be working than go on one. Yet, every year, they went on at least two of them. We didn’t know where, but they were gone for several days.

You might be wondering why, and frankly, so were we. They just shrugged their shoulders when we asked them why they continued going if they hated it so much. We also asked them if we could join them, on special occasions, and see if we can’t make it more fun for them. A simple “no” was all we got from them.

Once, when we were shopping together, I saw them buying a big tent, explaining to me that a good tent is crucial to have, when going camping. When I pointed out that it was very big, and probably heavy, and surely a smaller tent would have sufficed, they just laughed. Knowing they’ve went on so many camping trips, I figured they knew what they were doing.

I was right, and they knew exactly what they are doing, as I discovered by accident. I heard noises in the hallway and decided to check it out, only to see them climbing toward the top of the building, in full camping gear, and with their tent.

Following them led me to the roof, where they had their big tent all set up, a large collection of magazines, and a 8gb zune player connected to some speakers. This appeared to be their “camping” spot. I decided to let them know I was there, and told them how much I liked their player.

After recovering from their initial shock, they started laughing as hard as they could. It appears this was “their” secret camping place, and a very relaxing one. They were kind enough to let us join them, now, and we do so, at every opportunity. Just be on the lookout for two tents on top of a building.

Glenn booked a room at the Stamford Plaza in Brisbane. After we had arrived, we went for a walk in the botanical gardens in the afternoon and I thought for sure he would propose then but he didn?t. We went back to our room to dress for dinner. Glenn had asked me to pick where we would go for dinner so I had selected the Pancake manor. After dinner he pulled the ring box out and put it on the table and said will you marry me. Glenn was so nervous he had this look on his face as if I was going to say no, but offcourse I accepted! We then went to the movies. Our engagement party wasn?t long after this on the 8th November 2003.

Our reception was held at the Novotel Brisbane. I wanted it to be different, one to be remembered!! We had the bridal table raised above the guests that worked out fabulously so everyone could see us and we could see them. No guest was sitting with their back to us, we wanted to see their happy faces enjoying themselves on our special day. The centrepieces consisted of a hurricane lamp and candle surround by a wreath of flowers. Behind the bridal table was a fairy light wall, which only added to the romantic atmosphere. After floating on a cloud during our bridal waltz “All I want is you” by U2, everyone was up dancing for the rest of the evening, to end the day in style.

Upon entering the reception room we proceeded to engage in a Polish wedding tradition where the parents of the bride and groom feed the couple salt, bread and sweet dessert wine as a symbol of the sweetness and bitterness of life. We briefly cut the cake and attempted to eat dinner. I couldn’t eat much as I was a little nervous and I was very surprised when Steven refused to eat as he wasn’t feeling well. We put it down to nerves but I was later to find out he was suffering from food poisoning from the previous day!

My favourite part of the day was walking down the aisle, holding my father’s hand – progressing toward the man I was to marry, the most wonderful man in the world. We had the fairytale reception at Curzon Hall. It was just beautiful. The staff were very professional and the food was lovely. We had a traditional reception in a true castle. What I had always dreamt of. In fact, the reception was the easiest thing to arrange, because I had the help of Christine at Curzon Hall who guided me through the process and gave great advice. It was a true joy to plan the reception.

Benn proposed twice! Once in December, in a very spontaneous moment while we were relaxing on holidays down at Narooma and again a month later when we picked up my engagement ring from an antique store in Braidwood, which we had discovered on the way home from the coast in December.

Sixteen months later we became husband and wife in front of 80 of our closest friends and family. It was a truly amazing day! Everyone told me that the day would whiz by, and it did, but a friend told me at our reception that we should pick a “moment” and remember it forever. Though I have many “moments” the one I will never forget is looking into Marcus’ eyes as I walked down the aisle. It was as if I was seeing him again for the very first time. Although I was fighting back tears, I was beaming through and through. I was about to marry the man of my dreams – the good-looking guy I’d spotted across the room a little over two years earlier. Nothing could take away from that moment!

We first met in a Brisbane pub in 2003. We didn’t exchange details at that time but met again at another Brisbane pub around 3 months later. We have been together ever since. Michael proposed on our 5th anniversary together. He had me convinced that it would never happen because he couldn’t afford a ring. Little did I know that he had opened a secret bank account and was saving for a ring. After we had been out for dinner he told me that he had a small gift for me – even though we said no anniversary gifts. He presented me with a beautiful engagement ring.

Within two months we were already discussing marriage, we were effectively “engaged to be engaged”! In March 2006 we shopped together for my engagement ring. Over the next four months, the ring nested safely in Nik’s possession whilst I was left pondering when and how he’d actually propose! On July 19 2006, Nik invited all of our family and friends along to our Flanagans gig. I was surprised and stunned when Nik begun strumming his guitar singing these words to the song he’d written.

We decided to have an autumn wedding, a year after Pierre proposed. I had dreamed of my wedding since I was a little girl so I was eager to start planning. I had in my mind the dress Ii always dreamed of, the typical princess dress. After a day of trying on wedding dresses, the last wedding dress I tried on was perfect, once I had it on I knew this was the dress. The wedding dress was embroidered with Swarovski crystals and had a train that was over a meter long. The Bridesmaids wore melon pink backless gowns embroidered with Swarovski crystals. The groomsmen wore light gray suits with a crisp white shoe which complimented the bridesmaids dresses. The whole theme I wanted for our wedding was classy, elegant and chic.

We had a very casual ceremony on the pier as the sun was coming up. It was magical. Our wedding reception was held at the Full Moon Hotel, Sandgate Queensland. We had a buffet breakfast and could not have asked any more of the staff. They were wonderful and made sure everything was perfect.

I just love the smell in the air when summer turns to autumn in Townsville, and I remember waking up to a glorious day of sunshine and that special smell in the room. I had only gone to bed at midnight after we managed to fit in a one hour dance lesson for our bridal party and parents, a rehearsal of our dance at the Casino, meeting up with Richard DeChazal my amazing hair and makeup artist, and writing my speech! The whole morning I just couldn’t grasp the concept that this was actually my wedding day! I remember feeling exceptionally calm and relaxed, but at the same time excited like a little girl. The morning flew by and before I knew it my wedding photographer had arrived. Unfortunately, we were running late by this time and we weren’t able to get photos taken before we left. This is probably the only thing I regret most about the day. Other than that small hiccup, the rest of day went as planned and was even more beautiful than I could imagine. We arrived at the Cathedral in a horse and carriage, which made for an exciting entrance. The Ceremony was just beautiful with the string quartet playing Unchained Melody as my Dad and I walked down the aisle. I wasn’t teary at all, we had both been waiting a long time for this moment, and after all this time and all the planning, it had finally come together. Our wedding reception was just stunning; fairy lights and candles adorned the marquee in absolute elegance. Our wedding waltz was one of the highlights of the night, with the dance being a combination of our waltz routine from competition days and some contemporary lifts and choreography to make it more interesting. Over all the day was just a fairytale wedding that couldn’t have been more perfect. As my Dad mentioned in his speech, “Rohan, the magician, the only man who can turn a Princess into a Prince!

Being the non-traditionalists that we are, we wanted to really develop an understanding between us as to what a wedding meant to us as a couple – and we came to the agreement that it was an opportunity for our close family and friends and Jono and myself to celebrate our love for one another and the relationship we have. Jono and I then decided to create a wedding that would incorporate this meaning, and I believe we successfully pulled it off with many guests saying it was one of the most ‘comfortable’ and ‘laid-back’ weddings they had ever attended.

A millionaire created through giving!

A millionaire created through giving!

There is an old historical Japanese tale about giving and it shows how we can receive the most extraordinary gifts when we’re giving and appreciative of what we already have.

Here is the story.

A long time ago, there lived a penniless young farmer. Nothing that he did turned out to be profitable. He was completely impoverished without any money, without anyone to help and nothing to eat. One night, totally at his wit’s end, he went to a shrine and sat near the altar and pleaded to Gods to show him what to do.

“I have always been sincere and industrious, but all my industriousness never became beneficial to me. Where have I gone wrong?”

He fell asleep besides the altar just after having asking his question. In the morning, as he was waking up, he saw one of the Gods in his dream surrounded by a blinding golden light. The God’s voice echoed through his mind.

“After you wake up in the morning, value that which you have in your hand and keep giving it fully to others as you move forward,” the God told him.

The farmer woke up. He still had many questions jumping through his mind but he lifted himself up and tried to shake off the strangely vivid dream he just had. To his surprise, he saw a piece of straw in his hand. Maybe it was on his clothes after the long day of fieldwork.

He was about to throw the straw away, but remembered what God had told him. Once again he sat down. Then he looked curiously at the bit of straw.

He sat for a long while wondering what that meant. He had no idea how a broken bit of a straw can be of any use to him. Suddenly he saw a wasp buzzing around. The wasp soon alighted on the tip of the straw. He caught hold of the wasp and bound it to the straw with a piece of string from his dress. Thus with a piece of straw with a wasp at one end, he proceeded.

He had only walked for a few minutes before he saw a little boy and his mother coming from the other direction. The boy was crying. As he said hello, the boy noticed the wasp moving on the straw that the farmer was holding. He stopped crying and asked for the straw. The farmer nearly declined but then he remembered about the God’s message that he needed to treasure what he had but also remembered that he was to give it away to others. So, he offered the straw to the boy. The mother was very appreciative as now the boy stopped crying and began smiling. The mother offered the farmer three tangerines.

The farmer continued on. And as he walked, he began feeling a little hungry. He thought of eating the tangerines but he reminded himself it was about giving the gift to others, not to himself.

He had to climb a steep hill and there he saw a trader sitting on the earth under a tree. Near the man was a wooden box. The farmer wished the trader who seemed to be very tired. The trader saw the tangerines the farmer had and asked if he could have them. The trader said he was very thirsty.

The farmer was also quite thirsty having walked for a long time during the heat of the day but he offered all the tangerines to the merchant. The merchant ate the three tangerines and regained his strength. He was very grateful for the kindness of the farmer and opened the wooden box next to him. There were rolls of hand dyed silk fabric. The merchant handed him one roll, thanked him and walked off.

The farmer proceeded again through the same route. He finally found a rivulet from which he drank water and felt restored. He felt more energetic and comfortable and went on.

He walked for some more time but did not come across anyone else. He felt that the silk might be that which would bring him something good. So he chose to go to a town in the vicinity and trade the fabric.

But just as he went around the corner, he saw in front of him a band of fighters. One of the fighters who looked liked the head of the band stood near a horse that was lying on the earth. The farmer heard the leader talking to his men.

“It does not appear that this horse would live much. We will have to leave it here. Nurse it well and catch up with me.” With this the leader jumped on to another horse and rode off, moving out of people’s sight.

The other warriors were left talking to each other about what to do. They did not want to kill the horse but there seemed to be no other choice. One of them finally drew his sword.

The farmer pleaded with them not to do that. He said he was ready to look after the animal. He said they can have the bolt of silk for letting him care for the horse. They agreed to the deal and left the place quickly.

Now the farmer stood there with a dying horse. He thought he might have made a mistake that after all he was not meant to be wealthy. Then he remembered something. There was the stream he’d just passed.

He made his way to the river and once there stripped off his shirt and dipped it in water to be able to feed the horse. He made his way back to the horse again and fed it by squeezing out the water into its mouth. After the water trickled in for a while, the horse reacted and soon became conscious. The farmer was then able to pull it up and make it stand.

The horse finally stood up on its legs so the farmer could take the horse to the stream. As the horse took more water and ate some fresh green grass around the stream, it soon began to regain strength.

So now the farmer owned the horse! The man and the animal traveled together, and the farmer had to run as the horse led the way. They traveled together for miles. Finally, as the sun was setting, the horse came to a halt in front of a big house. The animal pushed the farmer towards the gate when he finally drew level with it.

As the farmer approached the gate, the doors swung open and to his surprise, an old man appeared. The old man was rushing outside and was looking a little pale. He noticed the farmer and the horse standing by the gate.

The old man asked the farmer what he was doing. The farmer said he was looking for a place to stay the night. The old man said he was going to the town for an urgent matter. He asked the farmer if he minded looking after his house until he returned. He said he might not be able to come back for a little while.

Since the old man appeared to be in a hurry, the farmer said that he can use the horse. The old man felt glad about the gesture and accepted the offer. He left with the horse but before he left told the farmer something strange.

“If I do not return within three years, this house is yours.”

As you possibly deduced, the old man did not come back.

So the farmer lived happily ever after in the old man’s big house with kind-hearted neighbours around and a land rich in good crops. He always kept in mind the rule that he should give to others what he had.

I am grateful to you for reading this story. And how did you feel about it?

Maybe there is a key to something. When we can turn our ‘getting game’ into a ‘giving game’, our life often flows bringing more abundance. But it is not always easy to practice the old wisdom in our real life.

Given below are the remarkable factors that we can glean from the story:

* When we are ready to give what others need, they will consider it more valuable than while we are trying to ‘trade’ it (as basically we are always hopeful of getting something out of that transaction), as then they only consider the price we ask for and tend to pay less.

* When there is no lasting attachment to the things we own, we will see that we have wider chances since we are able to free ourselves from what we have.

* When we are down and out with the problems of life, instead of worrying about the negativities if we kept focus more on giving others and caring for them, life would surely bring glad tidings later.

* When we try to encash what we have created, believing that “this is the maximum it will bring”, as we think we might be the loser if it is not turned into cash, our life will stagnate. Instead of that, we should continue to give liberally whatever we have got and however wealthy we are or we are not.

Giving is part of many successful people’s lives. When we give first, we have more chance of living a life of magnificence, ease and expansion.

August 12th, ’09 was a beautiful, sunny Wednesday morning in Canada. Because I worked at the Rogers Cup, I had access to the grounds and had specifically requested the day off so I would be able to go see all the professionals’ warmups. It was indeed a loaded schedule with the finest ten in action throughout the day.

At eleven that morning, a buddy and I headed over toward Court four where the world’s top ranked player, Roger Federer, was expected to arrive at 11:30am. Already filled with roughly several hundred people, there was very little room to move.

As the time approached, the place was filled with people who enthusiastically waited to catch a glimpse of the best to ever play the game. With the sun scorching at 95 levels fahrenheit, we watched him warm up and we saw him hitting balls. To be frank, it was pretty boring and was scheduled to go on for 2 hours.

So, slowly, we squeeze out of the crowd and arrive at an open space. I glance up at Court 4 on the opposite side to see a tall, skinny competitor clad in a pink Nike T-shirt and white shorts pounding a few balls. I try to look closer and indeed came to see it was Juan Martin Del Potro.

As he came to the exit gate, there had been six fans waiting for him to have his autograph and he did sign. As he signed my picture and went on to my pal, I said “I wish you the best of luck in your competition later.”

Del Potro turned around and had a big smile on his face and insisted “Thank you so very much for your support.” He seemed like he was extremely happy with what I had said to him.

As he won yesterday, the irony of this scenario just came to my mind. The fact that basically nobody was in attendance to root for him and Rog had a ton of fans. Occasionally, it is easier to be left alone than to be relentlessly followed.

Del Potro played a marvelous game this week and is wholly worthy of his title. Well done!
