If you have already bought a TASER C2 you probably are aware how easy it is to use. You probably took the time to read the owner manual and watch the training DVD that comes with each TASER C2. By doing this you became familiar with the most effective way to use the TASER C2. If you have just purchased your TASER C2 make sure you take the time and go through the training DVD and owner manual as soon as it arrives.

The way the unit gets power is by using a Lithium battery cartridge. This cartridge is very well designed and contains enough energy to power the TASER C2 for 50 firings. Make sure before you put the battery cartridge in that you have not inserted the magazine cartridge first. You don’t want to do that. Always place the battery cartridge in first followed by inserting the magazine cartridge. When you have both cartridges in correctly you will see a green light. This signifies that your TASER C2 is ready for action.

Now we are ready to load the magazine cartridge. Very easy to do but with a few words of caution. Just like a gun, never point the business end of a TASER C2 at anyone unless you are going to use it. Second, also like a gun, make sure the safety is on. You do this by sliding the switch cover closed. After you obeyed those two things simply open up the magazine cover and install the cartridge. When you have pushed it in far enough you will hear an audible “click”. That is your notice that you have installed it correctly. A nice feature about the design of the personal protection product is that the magazine cannot be installed incorrectly. That is nice to know especially if you are in a high stress situation.

Actually using the TASER C2 is very easy. Hold it just like you would a gun. Make sure you hold it vertically and not sideways or some other fancy way. Push back the safety cover until the firing button is exposed and you are ready. All of the C2 models, except one, have a built in laser sighting device. This red light will show up on an attacker when you point the unit at them. Remember, the red light on the attacker shows you where the top probe will land. Aiming for the trunk area of the body is your best bet. Don’t forget also that the range of your personal protection device is 15 feet. You have to be closer then 15 feet to your attacker in order for the probes to reach him.

The spread of the two probes varies with the distance you are away from an attacker. For the best results try to be about 7 to 10 feet away from him. At this distance your probe spread will be about 16 inches which is what we want. This will produce maximum effectiveness. Try to make sure you get more then a 4 inch spread of the probes.

Practice, practice, practice. Targets are available so that you can practice using the device. Never practice on someone as the TASER shoots two small barbs that will penetrate clothing and skin and deliver the volts and wattage to the body. Practice in an empty room and make sure no one can come in unexpectedly.

The TASER C2 is actually two self defense weapons in one. If you have fired at an attacker, and missed, you can still use it as a regular stun gun. Each C2 has two electrodes at the end. If you apply these electrodes to the neck or other exposed skin of an assailant a shock will take place and you can still get out of trouble.

After you have fired the TASER C2 and your attacker is on the ground, drop the unit and run. Run as fast as your little feet will take you. A great thing about the manufacturer of the unit, TASER International, is that they will replace your unit if you have had to use it during an attack. Simply send them a copy of the police report.

Everyone should know how to take care of themselves in potentially threatening situations. The future is uncertain and, while there is no need to conjure up horrible scenarios, it is a good idea to prepare yourself for the worst. The possibility of being robbed, mugged or abducted always exists and you would be wise to develop a plan of action for yourself should that situation ever arise.

There are several steps you can take in order to ensure your own personal safety. Carrying a personal alarm, purchasing pepper spray or a stun gun or even enrolling in a self-defense course can all help to keep you from being victimized.

Confidence is one of the most important elements when it comes to protecting yourself. Criminals specifically target individuals who look weak or unaware of their surroundings. These types of people would be easier to overcome and subdue. If you come across as confident, your chances of being victimized are greatly reduced.

So how does one appear to be strong and confident? As mentioned earlier, educate yourself and be prepared for the worst circumstance. If you are well prepared, you will no longer fear walking into a dark parking lot. You can enter feeling alert, confident and prepared.

How do you come up with a good plan of action for your personal security? One of the best resources is the internet, where you will find many sites with information on self-defense and tips on protecting yourself and fending off would-be attackers. Doing a simple search will bring up several sites with good information on personal security.

Here are a few ideas to begin with:

- Carry a personal alarm with you. Personal alarms are very effective at communicating distress in the event that your mouth is covered, your voice gives out or you are unable to scream. They are also quite small which makes it convenient to carry them on your keychain or in your purse.

- Carry pepper spray or a stun gun in your purse. Make sure to check with authorities that these items are legal to carry in your area.

- Sign up for a self-defense course. You will be instructed in what types of situations to avoid, what to do when a situation arises, and self-defense moves to protect yourself.

The old saying “You can never be too careful” certainly holds true. And it is never more relevant than when considering your own personal security. Don’t let another day pass without taking proactive steps to better protect yourself from danger. You will acquire more confidence as you go about your daily and nightly activities. And that very confidence may be just the thing to deter potential criminals and help to keep you safe!

Keep abreast of criminals with your own personal security. Don’t wait till it’s too late to organize your personal security training.

We often read headlines in the news about a police officer using a stun gun on someone. Very often, in fact most of the time, the headline is wrong. The officer probably used a TASER device on a suspect and not a stun gun. The terms “stun gun” and “TASER” have almost become interchangeable.

Make sure you are aware of the differences between the two when you are shopping for a personal protection product for your self defense needs. You might think they are the same thing and operate the same but they do not. When you take into account the differences you will be in a better position to make the choice that is right for you.

Stun guns are effective approximately 85% of the time when they are used against attackers. When there are people who are high on drugs or just very aggressive the effect may not be as good at all. Especially if the stun gun is of a lower voltage. A TASER has an effectiveness of almost 100% and you will never have to worry if you will be able to put the attacker to the ground or not. The incapacitation rate of a TASER is higher than even a 9mm handgun and you aren’t even hurting the person permanently as you would with the 9mm bullet.

Stun guns use a high voltage and very low amperage to introduce electrical current into the body. You can find stun guns rated at 100,000 volts all the way up to about 3,000,000! The key is that voltage has a low amperage behind it. Now the TASER uses only about 50,000 volts but employs a higher amperage to introduce the electrical signal into an assailant’s body. The TASER will have an effect on someones nervous system and muscular skeletal system. The stun gun effects only the nervous system. By effecting both systems the TASER tends to be more effective.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you use a stun gun you must hold it directly to the attacker’s body. This forces you to get that close to the person and risk harm. When a TASER is used it can be used while you are standing up to 15 to 21 feet away from the attacker.

If the cost of your self defense weapon is a factor in making your decision then you should know there is a big difference in the prices. For around $100 you can buy the latest model, most powerful stun gun available. Not bad really. If your decision is to buy a TASER then be prepared to spend at least $300 up to about $500. Knowing that the TASER is the most effective self defense weapon today might also help you decide.

At one time the size difference between a TASER and a stun gun was dramatic. It was not unusual to see stun guns about 10 inches tall and look bulky! That has all changed today. Most stun guns are available in a wide range of sizes. From around 3 inches in height to about 9 inches. The TASER International company offers two models of the TASER to civilians. They are the TASER C2 and the TASER X26C. The X26c resembles a regular handgun and is held as such. The C2 is small, fits in the palm of your hand and does not look like a self defense weapon.

When choosing your personal protection product remember these differences. TASER equals almost 100% effectiveness while the stun gun gives you about 85%. Price – expect to pay much more for a TASER then you will pay for a stun gun, at least triple the cost. You can keep your distance from an attacker when using a TASER. Up to about 15 feet. With the stun gun you have to get up close and personal with an attacker and discharge the stun gun while it is touching them.

Both stun guns and TASERs are effective, worthwhile, self defense weapons. Whichever one you choose will help protect you when needed.

To get the best self defense from a stun gun you should know how it works. When you buy a stun gun learn how it works so you use it in the best way. Here is some information about the principle workings and mechanics of a stun gun.

Stun guns jumble up the electrical pulses in a body. These are the pulses that are being sent from the brain to other parts of the body telling the other parts what to do, such as “OK, raise your arm”. These electrical pulses control every function and movement of the body. When a stun gun is applied to an attacker those electrical pulses go awry. As an example, the electrical pulse being sent to the arm gets rerouted to the leg and the arm does not perform as it was instructed. This is because of the very low amperage sent from the stun gun into a body.

Stun guns confuse the brain. When a stun gun is used the brain tends to shut off for a couple of seconds. When this happens a lot of energy diminishes the amount of blood sugar in the body. The body takes a “Time Out” because the signals from the brain are so confusing. The body becomes temporarily paralyzed and does not function the way we expect it to.

A stun gun can penetrate the thickest clothing an attacker is wearing. A stun guns’ voltage can range anywhere from 100,000 volts up to about 3 million volts! It is what happens inside the stun gun that makes this an effective non-lethal self defense weapon. There are transformers inside a stun gun that increases the voltage supplied by usually a 9 volt battery or a rechargeable battery and at the same time reduces the amperage. A capacitor builds up energy and sends it to the two electrodes that are applied to the attacker. An oscillator creates a pulsing effect of the voltage and amperage. Because there is such a small amperage applied, usually about 3 milliamps, there is no permanent damage to the attacker.

If you are confronted by an attacker you can test fire your stun gun before he actually makes a move to attack you. When you test fire the stun gun several things happen that should cause the attacker to leave you alone and look for a weaker victim. The first thing that will occur when you test fire the stun gun is that the attacker will actually be able to see the electric current jumping from one test electrode to the next. The other thing that will probably deter him is that when that current is moving between the test electrodes he will be able to hear a loud crackling noise. Most stun guns have a total of four electrodes, two for test firing and two for transferring the charge into a body.

Stun guns are very basic. There are many different types of stun guns and they come in many shapes and sizes. However, they all use a 9 volt battery or are rechargeable and have the same capabilities to send 3 milliamps into the body and disable the electrical signals or neurotransmitters being sent from the brain. The body will be temporarily disabled for a short period of time.

Keep in mind that when stun guns are used, the electrodes have to be touching the assailant. They are very effective in disabling a person and temporarily paralyzing them. You cannot kill someone when you use a stun gun on them. Also, the voltage going into the attackers body will not pass back to you even if you are touching the attacker.
