What Part Should Weight Loss Supplements Play in the Fight Against the Bulge?

One of the most widely held myths in weight loss circles seems to be the idea that one can, through the use of the various popular weight loss supplements – actually attain real and sustainable weight loss; that is, without any further exertion or pain on their part. Obviously, this myth which is seemingly fueled by the makers and vendors of the various weight loss supplements plays on the basic tenet in human nature of always wanting to follow the path of least resistance, and attain goals with the least application of effort.

The idea that one can lose weight through the use of weight loss supplements only is one that causes discomfort even to people with the most basic understanding of the English language – but with no active interest in weight loss – because, surely, a supplement is supposed to be something that gives ‘a helping hand’ to something else, meaning that there are surely some primary keys to weight loss, to which the weight loss supplements are supposed to give such a ‘helping hand’.

To answer the question as to what the weight loss supplements are supposed to be supplementing, we have to understand what it is that can lead to real sustainable weight loss, and to which the supplements are supposed to only play a supportive role. And this is not hard to figure out – because those of us who have absolutely no personal interest in weight loss and matters to do with it known that the keys to real sustainable weight loss are proper diet and exercise.

The term proper diet, as used in the weight loss context refers to measures like avoiding foods that aggravate the problem of the bulge (as the weight problem is also called) – these being foods like those that are too high in fat and foods that are too high in sugar. The term proper diet, as used in the weight loss context also refers to measures like ensuring that you only eat when you are hungry, and even then ensuring that you stop eating immediately you sense that ‘you are full.’

The term proper exercise as used in the weight loss context, on the other hand, refers to getting enough physical activity to burn up any extra fat that your body could be storing up, even as you attempt to control your eating habits.

So it is towards ’supplementing’ both the dietary and exercise practices that lead to weight loss that weight loss supplements should come in – in, for instance, helping burn of extra weight that has persisted even in spite of the best dietary and exercise efforts. Conversely, this is to say that weight loss supplements cannot offer an alternative to weight loss efforts; the dietary and exercise effort has first to be employed, and then weight loss supplements (optionally) introduced to expedite the weight loss.
