Why Is Exercise Good For Us?

Why is exercise good for us? Through maintaining a healthy lifestyle, we live longer. Exercise improves our physical, mental, emotional, and overall sense of well-being. Exercising regularly boosts our immune system. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can prevent illness such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc.

We spend too many unnecessary dollars on health care. Bluntly speaking, that money can ne used on other things. By taking care of our bodies, we can prevent problems from arising and therefore prevent having to spend money to solve those problems. Exercising regularly and maintaining a well balanced diet helps with blood flow and can reduce stress and anxiety levels.

Why is exercise good for us? Endorphins, the “happy” hormone, are released after a bout of physical activity. People who exercise regularly tend to be happier than people that do not exercise at all. They are enriched with the “runner’s high”. And this is the “healthy” kind of high, rather than a drug or caffeine induced one.

Exercising also improves self esteem. It is also an effective treatment for depression (endorphins in action). Depression is often treated with drugs. But drugs cost money and most have side effects. Exercising is free and is good for you. Staying active improves the quality of life. Having more energy means having a fuller life.

Exercise keeps a person fit and healthy. Looking better helps one feel better, which is also beneficial. Physically fit people are more likely to like what they see in the mirror. They are not shy about showing off their body at the beach.

In the elderly, regular exercise can delay mental and physical deterioration. Exercise keeps the mind sharp. Bones and muscles weaken as we age. Certain exercise can help strengthen bones and muscles while delaying the weakening. Senior citizens with the highest longevity were the ones that have maintained a healthy active lifestyle.
